My guess is this will lead to more classics-only tournaments around here. We’ll see, I suppose.
Or modern games with no tilt warnings, super tight tilt, no ball save, games jacked up with 2X4’s on the back legs, hold wires for flippers disconnected, and outlanes completely removed.
Plenty of ways to focus on the ‘not fun’ part of competitive pinball if WPPR points are that meaningful to any given community of players.
In public locations, messing with the games like that usually is not a realistic option.
I will miss always having Gorgar & Paragon in Enterrium finals, but will enjoy playing fewer rounds on a Tuesday night to save time for the inevitable Sternathon finals.
so standard IFPA events setup then?
These set ups should be worth less TGP because they take less time. /s
If Keith Elwin is playing it should be worth more TGP because he has longer ball times compared to other players. /s
I think if the TD does 1-2 things like that then THEY MUST TELL ALL OTHERS ABOUT IT.
no secret info about very odd game setup allowed.
Disagree, it’s super entertaining to see a top-level level player walk up to a game with a bunch of secret modifications and get WAXED.
I call them Wurtetition ™ installs.
… And it’s not ball 3 on Dialed In.
just as long as the TD / setup staff is not playing in that event to be fair to all.
Nah, let 'em play, homefield advantage.
Late to the party - but gotta agree with Olli-Mikko here.
The big difference between the old “farms” and the current situation is PAPA etc were held once a year.
The current farms are every month. And in some cases, huge events every week.
Hey - very cool if you’re handy and can get along to them. Not so much if you can’t.
I have a previously #1 ranked woman player who lives in my house who has come to terms with the fact she will never ever be able to be ranked #1 again.
I already hear that voice … “run your own farms over there!” Unfortunately in countries with smaller populations like NZ and Finland the players are spread all over the country - it’s hard to get them all in one place at one time. We do our best …
Hey, whatever. It is what it is. I’m off to Brisbane Masters in a few weeks for our once-a-year WPPR FARM! Giddy up!

I say let’s just forget all the formats, game setup, x2 value for this crap and just base TGP on time taken haha. Have an IFPA approved timer that starts running when tourney starts and is stopped when the final ball of tourney is drained. And then do 1 hour = (?) TGP for a max of (?) hours…
(For those who don’t catch it, this is sarcasm btw^)
Hi, I didn’t read this whole thread.
As a TD, I will always try and maximize TPG. Our current go to format is a half day tourney for 100% TGP using both FF and Multi-Matchplay. This format was still grueling for me and my partner and fun for most everyone else. (Were these updates made directly for us? We have like four tourneys a year. Come on.)
Finding ways, in the long set of WPPR rules, to maximize TGP is going to keep happening because our local competitors want points and can’t necessarily travel or spend 1 million hours getting them. Nerfing these formats is just creating more work for me and other gaming TD min/maxers to find new formats to maximize TGP and spend more of our time helping our little community. Help us baby local TD’s and let us have our FF and multi-matchplay!
The continued nerfing of the “FUN” formats continues on. First Golf, then Flip Frenzy and multi-matchplay. Sure I’m missing a few.
An event should be able to specify which machines will be used when without a penalty if players informed up front. Organizer should be able to state these machines will be used for X rounds, then others will be used for rest of event since there is no time stated to when the switch will happen.
You can still run fun formats - just gotta run them for longer now if you want the same amount of points.
A popular format in the Seattle area was head to head three strike - this got dropped pretty quick in favor of four player group strike, however, a LOT of locations continue to run these “antiquated” formats because they’re more fun to people - less waiting around in 2 player groups. Now it means less points but if they wanted more points it wouldn’t be hard to go from 3 strike to 4 strike. In fact it probably wouldn’t even add much time and would probably be shorter than a four player group 3 strike.
looks at ifpa site
Odd, there’s no TGP guide for a six strike head to head format ? I’m sure there is if you ask nicely …
So on the IFPA post it says “there is no player minimum for the 125% boost level …. Aka certified event” Yet then under the requirements to be a “certified event” it says you must take a minimum of 24 players to finals…… so that means there is in facts a minimum for the 125% boost level is there not, that would be 48 players required?? And if so, is that 48 rated players or just 48 players?
Technically 48 players are only required if you want the TGP for the qualifying part to be counted as meaningful (although that would be a giant waste of a ton of qualifying time to not be included in the TGP value).
Rated or not rated is irrelevant when it comes to Certified events. That’s only a Certified+ requirement.
