WPPR v5.8 sneak peek

YEGPIN does this as well, choice of bank not games, so glad there is flexibility there.

and events where Finals is only an few TD picked banks is that ok? Aka MAIN stage banks only?
Events in where some games used in the pre Finals banks are now part of the free play area and are out of play for the Finals?

I think that YEGPIN is planing to do that so that does seem like TD forced choice for finals rounds

He specifically mentioned pinburgh so it’s allowed.

@DNO coined the term “WPPRtunity” many years ago (along with “Simuldrainious” and a few other Bowden Dictionary gems). Such a good word, thanks Donavan!

Just curious: What is bad with random game selection?

Allot perfect example would be would you rather play Keith Elwin on Godzilla or the EM 2001?

That’s the simple answer but in reality it is very disheartening to spend a an entire day or 2 days qualifying to make finals to then end up on a machine you would never really want to play because of random chance.

Everyone has strengths and weaknesses and part of competition is using those strengths to your advantage and by playing well during qualifying you should be rewarded for that effort.

We also strive to remove as much Random chance as we can out of competition. It’s the reason we make sure Tournament mode is set on every machine possible and that we use machines that we know don’t have random issues that give players huge advantages.

So in keeping with striving to remove as much randomness as possible, removing random game selection in finals from certified events to us seems like a positive change.

I agree with taking random anything out of tournament. No fun losing to someone who got a better mystery award. Only exception for me is Who dunnit, let me gamble!

This should be changed to 3 or 4 am as it’s more practical since pretty much all bars close at like 2AM, that way an evening event that goes late at a bar isn’t treated as a 2 day event.

How do you feel about N-strikes events? The very nature of that style of event is random games and random matchups. Even when a Swiss style is employed, there is some randomness.

When I ran strikes events at my home, I would set it up so that each round all players would be on the same type of game and the game type would change every round. Modern DMD, 2" flipper games, Late 70’s SS games etc.

That avoided people complaining (for the most part) about getting stuck playing 60’s wedgehead games several times in a row where others might be playing modern Sterns several times in a row.

There’s no difference between a 1 day or 2 day event with respect to how our calculation of value works (that I can think of).

not random in Tournament mode

Right, my fault for not clarifying. I meant I’d be ok with that in a tournament setting.

I’ve played in those. Some call it alternating rounds. I’m ok with that, I guess that’s a different style of random. If I’m just doing a knockout style which is the most common, I expect the machines to be random. If I’m qualifying for something, I expect to be able to have some sort of influence on the choice of my fate.

but for an 4 day max it should not start day 1 at 12AM when the event may not really start till 9A 10A or later.

Or if you want to stick to that then it should better worded as can some really start at 12AM but say must be checked in on the day before?

As now we need to define what is the start time and what is the end time for the 4 day window. Does setup time count?
Show start date?

Better to say max hours from start to end?? with no clock stopping?

I love this thread

Randomness in the software is something completely different to me.

I like to play both types of playoffs (player game choice or random). Cannot see a good reason for why random should be penalized. If you put the games in the competition the players should be able to play well and win on any of them. Regardless if it is selected by yourself, by your opponent, or randomly.

Mixing classics and modern games weakens my reasoning. But I am of the “old european school” that think they should be separated.

But given mixing, I like the Pinburgh style where it can be random or player choice within different eras.

Crap is really gonna hit the fan when daylight savings becomes permanent.

Just a random comment after catching up. Pinballz could have been the original D82 however the owner has a small vision of what competitive pinball is, was, and could have been. So sad. So I have to travel to Dallas and Houston (3 hours) as the current State Champion to earn enough State points to qualify this year…

This is our monthly tournament haul locally. Fun times…

It takes a lot to make a farm work. Need tons of games and they need to be tip top, and there needs to be a local player base to support it. We are still trying to get it going in Cincy and we’re like 8 years in. Haha. Hoping a new consolidated location will help. We have the players just participation is still wildly inconsistent.

We’re fortunate in Chicagoland that the location owner of Enterrium seems to get it:

Just had a record 57 people for their monthly. I think it’s about time @abagwell85 puts his overalls on and starts cultivating the crops. I could see one event per day with two every Sunday.
