GoPro 9 released with Live Streaming via RTMP.

Could be a direct to streaming rig solution with an RTMP server, assuming the units don’t overheat.

Oh snap that’s awesome I’d just be able to plug and play since I have RTMP set up for heads up

Mine just arrived today. Going to play with it soon. I think the 8 had this feature as well though.

The problem I had with RTMP cameras is keeping them in sync - and with audio - not as easy as it should be.

So I just got a headphone kit for Spike2 and it works great… for headphones. For some reason plugging in a standard aux cable and plugging the other end in to my mic port on my computer doesn’t work though… the game refuses to acknowledge I have something plugged in to the headphone jack. I found a weird workaround where I just use a headphone splitter and leave a pair of headphones on the ground, although with the levels of volume you need to get the capture the poor headphones don’t stand a chance… Anyone figure out a solution to this to get the direct audio this way? Do they sell little dongles that act as a sink for the audio to disappear into, as if it was a headphone?

So I just bought a $1 garbage pair of earbuds from Walmart to split into ha and hid it in the cabinet. Now I can listen to game audio from the speakers at a normal level and get direct audio from the headphone out at a reasonable level! Although it is weird, if you have “mute on headphone in” set to no then you do hear speaker sound but then the headphone jack gets noticeably quieter, and actually ends up being relative to the “master” volume of the game, which can be annoying if you have your game turned down low but want high quality direct audio. Works well enough though!

Would still love a technical explanation though, ha, it’s just baffling. Probably something about “ground”…

Strange - some PCs need a setting to change them to line in or mic? I’ve now got the headphone accessory on all my spike 2 games (Please Stern let me choose a US coin door for a UK game or do a UK headphone adaptor!!) and I use a 3.5mm cable to a Wireless audio feed to my mixing desk. Works great. I then wear headphones so the feedback/lag on the music doesn’t clash (much like in live pro broadcasting).

Try plugging the audio cable into the line-in port of your computer, if it has one; it’ll be the blue port if they are color coded. Line-in is designed to take line-level stereo signal, while microphone is (usually) mono and mic-level. (This can vary depending on your PC/sound card).

Yeah the Line In or “listen” option doesn’t seem to help, the game doesn’t recognize it being plugged in. If I use my headphone splitter hack and switch on the Line In mode it ends up doing the same thing except now it also plays out of my computer speakers ha

Tried another cable?

Finally managed to track down all the pieces I needed for my ideal audio set up… I call this the “full analog” approach, here it goes:

In my case the setup I used was headphone jack -> headphone splitter, then in one of the splits I plug the $1 earbuds in, and hide that in the coin door. This allows the game to think you have headphones plugged in, and thus appears to make the headphone jack function. Then the other side of the headphone split you plug a 3.5mm male male aux cable into and feed into the 1/4 adapter into the audio mixer.

The microphone plugs in to the TS female to TS TS male Y splitter, and then each of those cables go back into the female parts of the TS TS to TRS splitter (which we use as a joiner here), which then goes into the audio mixer.

Finally, using the second 1/4 adapter in the output portion of the mixer, use the male male 3.5mm aux cable to go into your PC’s mic input.

There MUST be a more elegant solution, but I’m documenting this in case anyone else is crazy enough to do this. I will say the end result is nice and it wasn’t overly expensive. I think there are 1/4 inch TS female to 1/4 inch TRS male (mono to stereo) adapters out there, but I wanted to experiment right away so I went to the brick and mortar guitar center, ha. Oh here we go, $4: https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/GPP419--hosa-gpp-419-1-4-inch-ts-female-to-1-4-inch-trs-male-adapter
Haven’t tested that though but should work instead of the two separate chained together cables

I’ve been looking to add more light to my stream and recently stumbled on Pinstadium’s X-Stream option. I’d been thinking about prototyping something similar with some LED strips and found some that are 5V and can run off a standard USB power bank. I finally got all of the Amazon parts and put this together quick tonight. It’s very bright and needs some work on the angle and diffusion but for something like $15 in parts per rail I think it’s not too bad. It’s not as fancy as the X-Streams since it’s just cool white and not controllable but I was more looking for some alternatives to LED panels or flood lights and a bit more compact. My tests showed about .75A per side so 1.5A for the pair which would give quite a bit of streaming time on a decent sized battery bank.

Very cool – post the parts list when you get a chance! I’ve been wanting to do something similar but haven’t gotten around to it.

For the brackets I just used a couple of corner braces from the hardware store like these:
https://www.homedepot.com/p/Everbilt-4-in-Zinc-Plated-Corner-Brace-2-Pack-15309/202033899

Some 3M Dual Lock or Velco ALFA-LOK (better than normal hook and loop) to play around with where to place the brackets and hold the aluminum channels to them.

Finally a few small neodymium magnets to hold the corner braces to the side rails.

I’m still playing around with which of the LED channels works best and how to bend the braces for the right angle and illumination but that’s basically it. I’m finding though that I think I like having some sort of longer overhang on the top of the LED rails so it’s less visually jarring while playing. And I think it might also help to have some sort of lower angled piece too to help with reflections on the glass directly below the rails. So there’s still a bit of work before I’m “happy” with the outcome.

Once I get it figured out I’m hoping to have my brother fab me a couple of them using carbon fiber or something to have more of a once piece thing.

I took the plunge on a Lumix G9. It has the same sensor as the GH5 which one of the “hybrid” video/photo micro 4/3. The tiltable LCD makes a world of difference. No more climbing on a ladder. Setting MF and AE is a 5 second ordeal. I put a fisheye lens on my GX85 and using that as a player cam instead of the horrible double frame Hero8.

They advertise that the USB charger can supply constant power. It’s BS, it drains slowly. I’m getting the DC coupler.

I’m also fiddling around with a new overlay, it’s not complete yet, but here’s a capture with the new gear.

On my direct sound I’m beaming it wirelessly to my goxlr and then my goxlr via Bluetooth back to my headset- means I can move my rig and just plug into the sound. Gammagoat had another recommendation for a Scarlet mixer that would work also that if you just stream pinball is better bet - I use my rig for streaming games occasionally so GoXLR works for me as the ability route the audio is second to none - so if I want to bring in a remote participant via iPhone or zoom conf it’s really straight forward Plus control the audio for my team whilst online - but I’d get the mini GoXLR version next time as the big one uses a lot of desk space for buttons you don’t often change.

My sound goes:

Stern audio adaptor / JJP headphones / Pinovators
3.5mm cable to Marmitek Audio Transmitter -… https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07M6RZSNV?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
The RX end of that goes into my GoXLR
TC Helicon GoXLR - Mixer, Sampler, & Voice FX for Streamers https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07JKNG4NV/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_JGxDFb86NBYZX

This goes via USB into my streaming Rig

My Mic is on a long XLR cable from a separate stand to the GOXLR having a dynamic mic that needs power means going wireless is hard and the solutions out there didn’t really work that well. When streaming via comps I leave the mic in the corner of the room and use a cheap boom mic to capture the ambient audio on the rig via a camera input.

Then from the GOXLR I have a Bluetooth TX

MPO Bluetooth 5.0 Transmitter… https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07G3961FS?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

Back to my Bose BT neckband headphones.

Overkill for just about everyone but this allows me to move the rig and keep audio wireless also - another thought I had was to pipe the audio into one of the cameras and take that wireless via HDMI but when ever I changed games more often than not it would freak out the blackbirds. With TNA (And I’m hoping rick and morty) the sound is in the HDMI stream already so I just use GoXLR to direct that to a mixer and knock the volume down a touch.

Waiting on Pinnovators headphone kit for CGC games and eventually will add them to my BW and SAM games.

Cheers,
Neil.

Lumix Camer’s are fantastic but the menus/setup for it are so unintuitive, I probably should have played with it more off the rig as even though you have the screen its stretch to adjust it when its the playfield camera. Looks great on your rig.

I decided to swap them with Canon M6 II. I shoot photos with a Canon and I know the menus well so getting the camera setup was straightforward to me, plus there is a lens bridge with my Canon lenses so fi I want to do something different with it I’ve got a good choice of lenses.

anyone else still streaming with Xsplit or are you all running OBS now?

Still sad I paid for Xsplit. Only used it for like 6 months. Been OBS before and after that time.

I’m still on xsplit and felt like I was the only one left on it!
