Just FYI as a former hotel employee … room types are NEVER guaranteed in the fine print. It’s great that you have an assigned room type and that makes it very likely you’ll get it. If you check in at a reasonably early hour you’re almost certain to get the room type preference. But in the end, it is only a preference.
In general hotels run out of King rooms before they run out of Doubles.
Good tip! I really liked the Drury last time I stayed there, rooms were (for lack of a better word) solid, I didn’t really near much street noise even being on the 2nd level.
First, Bowen nailed it on room type. Here’s some fine print from the Marriott site, which includes Westin. Note that “guarantee” just means some compensation if not met, and only for Elite members in some cases [this was clipped from their “Elite Benefits” section]:
When making a reservation, be sure to note your Member number and room/bed preferences. We’ll always honor your bed type request at our locations throughout the U.S. and Canada. Everywhere else, smoking/non-smoking preferences are honored based on availability; exact bed sizes may vary, and only Titanium Elite members will have guaranteed priority for their requested type of bed and room. If guarantee is not met, guest compensation applies.

Second, I’d also point out that you’re not even guaranteed a ROOM!
In 2016 at Pinburgh, I was “walked” from the Westin to another hotel the night I arrived since the Westin was full [they had overbooked] by the time I got there. I did get into my room in the Westin on the subsequent nights. Here’s a link to an article on that:
I just booked at the Drury too. I thought it was odd that the same 2-queens room was more expensive for 3 guests instead of 2. Oh well. Now I just hope to get tickets to the event. . We tried last year, but didn’t get tickets, so this year will be our first.
My recently-engaged brother just told us his wedding will be July 2021, so it would be good to know now if I need to hire a look-alike for my brother’s wedding in case they conflict.
Does anyone have advice on the best way to get Pinburgh tickets? Last year (sad story written then deleted…). So THIS year I’ve got 3 family members ready to click away when the sale opens, and we will each enter the waitlist if needed. Is that how everyone does this or am I missing something?
Do you need some kind of account to buy them? I’d like to have that set up in advance if possible. I haven’t been since 2012 but managed to get the days off this year to go.
Use a PC, wired connection. If possible, multiple computers (friends/family as others have described) to help odds.
Have your address, CC info and IFPA number in notepad, ready to copy and paste into ordering page as needed.
Verify PC clock set correctly, hit F5 periodically before the bell tolls to ensure you don’t miss possible early ordering if remote site clock is early.
I sympathize as I’m in suspense about it too. It may conflict with a work function for me and that would make for a very, very tough choice. One that may involve crazy shenanigans involving flying internationally with extreme jet lag in an attempt to get to both.
Is the 1 PM wait list a new thing? Don’t remember it being that way last year? I guess folks will have to wait almost an hour after the sellout occurs at 12:00:08 PM. So F5 your way on to the wait list also…
