@HeadRushLV did you get your cables yet? The ones they linked look correct. The ones with “extension” in their name are not.
I believe I just bought those
So hopefully they work…
I’m so sad I messed up and didn’t get the “bundle” when I bought my board… now I get to wait another 2 weeks ha
I believe all boards are printed with that (1080p) marking but it comes down to the programming and if it was the correct one sent to you.
You will need at minimum 1 LVDS cable as described in this thread to connect from the Stern board to the extracting board (assuming your board will pass the signal like mine did).
I guess I got lucky that mine came with cables and the extra ones I purchased didn’t work. (I need to try to change the pinout on those).
Let me know if you need more help man!

I found a cheaper source for the board. When ordering say you want the Single 8 version. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32981189930.html
Can’t get it to work with the black diamond 4 port card - think DeadFlip has same issue.
Well… my cables came from aliExpress, and along with the board from them I can say I am now able to convert in to HDMI and see it on a monitor. Hooray!
I ran in to a little snag with trying to record it in OBS though, through my capture card. No matter which resolution I select (and it won’t let me enter a custom one ), the video will load and attempt to play but then freeze immediately. This is on my Macbook.
When I try it on my Windows machine, it works flawlessly (although kind of strange because it seems to let me choose whatever resolution I feel like and it just sort of gives the same thing no matter what).
I think it’s a Mac issue rather than a capture card issue. Unless someone can confirm they’ve got this to work with a mac?
EDIT: I unplugged and plugged some things back in and now it’s working on my Mac… spooky
I don’t do anything with streaming so this may be irrelevant, but ColorDMD just released a new screen that has a DisplayPort interface.
eDP, you can get a eDP cable to DP but not easy to split the signal to return it back to the screen.
Neil.
Last night on my stream I had my Jurassic Park hooked up to the hdmi board and every single time I shot the left ramp, the feed freaked out (got all scrambled) but then immediately recovered. Why would shooting s specific shot do something like this?
Is there a flasher linked to that shot? Try going into flasher test and activate it there and see if that’s the problem.
Maybe a grounding issue when that shot is triggered? (Just throwing a guess out there)
Update: I ordered the 4k Elgato Cam Link from Amazon for ~$120 and it worked perfectly. It was a little strange because OBS detected two resolutions that were both identical, where one of them worked and the other didn’t. Probably because it’s such a bizarre resolution.
I still get the weirdness with the left ramp on Jurassic Park. Probably a game specific thing, or has to do with the cheapness of the cables I got. Will experiment with Maiden and Batman '66 at some point.
In summary I was able to get it working with only the board from AliExpress, and the cables from AliExpress, and the Elgato Cam Link. There is a way to get cables to come with your board (it’s one of the purchase options) but I missed that when ordering so I had to place an order for the cables. The cables don’t exactly go on snug to the spike board, but they do fit and you can push them in with a pen or other small object.
Now, on to the sound… What’s the minimal amount of stuff I need to get audio from a spike?
All you need is a PinSUB Spike kit. It comes with a long 3.5mm cord, you can plug it into the Line In jack on your PC (don’t use the Microphone jack, which is usually mono only. If you’re on a laptop, you might need to check in the audio settings for the input to see if it does stereo). Then you can add it as an Audio Input Source in OBS.
If you want to get fancier, you can connect the PinSUB to the HDMI board to get the audio over HDMI, but this isn’t necessary.
On general games, is it possible to tap the cabinet speaker run it to an LOC and feed that into the stream? I know nothing about electronics, but it seems like that is the purpose of an LOC.
The cabinet line level audio would need to be converted with a line level device. An easier way is using PBL headphone jack or a Pinnovators PINsub kit. Then run that output into the 4-pin just header on the capture.
The audio coming from the speakers are TOO strong and would damage any regular input on a computer. DO NOT do as advised. Something as simple as this PAC Line Out Convertor would work. Please only post information if you have absolute knowledge or experience with said hardware.
you make a good point, the voltage may be too high.
Any chance there is someone making these and selling them for new Sterns with the enclosure and everything? I’ve completely failed to put Ikea furniture together on numerous occasions, let alone crimp video cables…
After trying to stream a couple times in OBS, windows, camlink 4k with the AliExpress board, it didn’t really work for me. Displays fine, but ends up blanking out way too frequently for me on Maiden. Maybe i will play around more while on vacation
I think it varies from game to game, on my Jurassic it blinks whenever the left ramp is hit. We used the board on BKSOR last weekend and it seemed flawless.
