Match Play Events: The Next Generation

I’ll see if I can’t figure something out, thanks for flagging it

You can add multiple labels by separating them with commas. So you mark players as Pro you can mark yourself as TD, Pro. You’ll appear as TD in most places because only the first label is shown due to space constraints. But both TD and Pro will be displayed in the info panel if players click your name and you’ll also be included whenever someone filters by the Pro label

I don’t have anywhere to store that information for a series because a series doesn’t have “players”. It has tournaments and those tournaments have players. Player labels do show up on the series standings at least.

I am thinking it would be nice to store a default label for players that would be applied any time that player is added to a tournament, but I decided to ship the feature instead of waiting until I got that added.

Loving the labels!
Also used the double elimination bracket for our league finals. It went great!

What I really miss is seeing the results of recent matches on Big Screen view, any chance of this returning?

Also with Max Matchplay it would be nice to show losses as well as wins. I know you can work this out with basic maths but it would be nice to be able to see it at glance.

Kinda figured but thought I’d suggest it just in case. And yes, having it be tied to a player by default doesn’t make sense either IMO.

Follow players
Having trouble finding tournaments your friends are playing in? Now you can “follow” them by clicking on them in a tournament or by clicking a button from their user profile.

When you follow a player their name will be highlighted in blue when viewing a match or the tournament standings. All people you follow are also listed on a new “people you follow” page so you can easily jump to any tournaments they’re playing in or organizing.

It’s important for me to point out that Match Play is not a social network. When you follow someone they will not be notified and in fact there is no way for them to even see you followed them (unless you show them your screen).

I feel you’ll get the most out of this feature if you follow a small group of tournament organizers and players. For the same reason there’s a limit on the number of players you can follow.

Cut line
Most tournament formats will now let you insert a cut line on the standings. Set the “Advancing to playoffs” option for your tournament and get a big red line on the standings so people can easily see if they’re making playoffs or not making playoffs.

If multiple players are tied around the cut line all of them will be highlighted in red.

I think that the cut line be under the last tied player?

or / and have an TIE cut line as well?

I think the way the cutline and tie highlighted as shown is perfect as is.

Moving the cut line below tied players would not communicate the right thing because you would no longer be able to see how many spots are available for the tied players. The red background indicates clearly who the tied players are. No need to complicate it with two separate cut lines.

Ok that seems good unless say there is like 6-10+ players tied

Now what about an buy cut line? with ties?

Used this last night at our weekly tourney and turned on automatic tiebreakers which eliminated any below the cut line automatically. I typically don’t like to do automatic for money spots, but we were time limited and this helped keep everything moving nicely. Thanks Andreas!! Awesome product.

Way down the road, when you’re bored with nothing to do (my sarcasm emoji isn’t working), would be nice to have a way to automatically generate B and possibly C division playoffs. They don’t matter for IFPA of course, but I occasionally run them to keep those not making the finals interested. And the bar likes it because more people stick around longer (if the bar doesn’t win, we don’t get a place to play).

Yes! I run B divisions all the time and making them from scratch stinks and ripe for mistakes. I also do not restrict so I need to have those final standings easy to submit to IFPA.

Divisions are a million times more complicated, but this first cut line feature is a step in that direction…

Where was this during the Silverball Super Social 2023 when I was a moron and told the wrong people they were in a tiebreaker because I can’t do math? I kid, this is awesome, thanks for the super useful feature!

Next time you can tell the wrong people they are in a tiebreaker because I can’t do math

Is there a time period for when you can attach a tournament to a series?

When I click add tournament to: 2023 DHPL League Championship Series I can only get tournaments up to June?

Missing my events 9-12 that need to be added as I was lazy and and didn’t add them to the series.

Answered my own question I fudged the dates in to the 3 month window then I change the dates back once the tournament was linked. Thanks!

For the set rank labels it would be nice when you add a new player that it automatically uses the same criteria you put in previously instead of having to enter it again for the new players.

Would also be nice if they show the labels on the big screen view as well on the groupings but not a huge deal there as it is in the standing, just a nice to have.

Dunno how practical a feature request this is, but it’s one that might impact others, so throwing it out there.

My Active Tournaments portion of the homepage is getting less glanceable and useful for me. Between tournaments that haven’t been closed that I played in, or TD’s that have added me to leagues/sessions/meets that I’m not taking part of, it’s getting kind of heavy. Some of these events are way in the past and aren’t ever going to get cleaned up or deleted, it seems. It would be great to have a feature to hide specific events from the Active Tournaments, or – failing that, since it seems that might be a nightmare to manage – remove myself from events that I have no play data for.

Maybe it’s just me though!
