At some point I made the default behavior that deactivated players are removed from the tournament when it starts. I hope that’s cutting down on the random tournament where the TD is adding too many players.
I’m mulling over how to best get tournaments closed in the cases where the TD is not closing their tournaments. For sure, ask your TD to close their tournaments since there are more consequences than just your dashboard (results from those tournaments aren’t included in various stats across the app either).
I’m leaning towards automatically closing tournaments after a set number of days/weeks without any activity.
As both a player and a TD, I find the doc site incredibly useful and full of very helpful information. However, I always misplace the tab that it’s in, and I can’t find any link to https://docs.matchplay.events from next.matchplay.events, unless maybe I’m not looking in the right place. Any chance this can be added to the left nav as “help” or “docs” because I think it’d be great for both players and TD’s. Thank you!
(I say this because I often reply to players with “RTFM” but they, also, can’t find the “FM”)
I’m desperately trying to figure out what to do with the main menu because there are so. many. links. I’m currently building a feature that would add two more links to the sidebar and need to figure something out before I can launch it
This is unsatisfying but you can always click the “i” icon on any tournament to get sent to the documentation page for that tournament format:
Thanks Andreas, that at least gets my players there!
Is it possible to have a two level/collapsable nav? I understand that’s not as immediately intuitive but there’s a lot of items that fit neatly into that structure. Tournaments could house Find Tournaments, Tournaments, Create Tournament, Create Series, Registrations, etc. Help could have the doc site, pintips, and the high-level WPPR estimator. Just spitballing here
Conversely, the doc site might be helpful under the player’s nav, similar to the follow feature?
UX is tough with so many options, thanks for keeping at it!
Hey @haugstrup! Just a quick update to my wish list.
Request 1: Add a check ALL box to the Add arenas window. It’s much easier for me to add all 30 arenas from Pinball Map and then deactivate the 2 or 3 machines that are down for the night. But checking 30 boxes each time is getting cumbersome.
We’re planning on doing a pingolf like the one they did in the European Championships earlier this year, i.e. using 3 balls instead of 5. Therefore I wonder if it’s somehow possible in Matchplay to change the number of balls from 5 to 3 when setting the target score?
Target scores calculate target scores using the IFPA Pin-Masters system for pingolf scoring. That system requires 5 ball games – there is no “target score” system for 3 ball games.
Ok, thanks. I understand that it wouldn’t be anywhere near the top of to-do-list. But in principle everything would be the same with 3 balls, i.e. instead of 6 to 10 it would be 4 to 8.
I finally managed to convert the TD running our local monthly 3-strikes tournament to MP, but he has a couple of complaints.
Namely:
When assigning an arena to players who had been waiting for a game to open up, they just get added to the In Progress section and it’s not easy to find the match. It would be nice if there was a pop-up to show the game and player order after assigning the arena.
There’s no apparent sort order to the matches, so it’s hard to quickly enter the results.
Consequently, I have two feature requests:
Add a pop-up showing the game and player order after assigning an arena on the “Needs arena” tab of a Strikes Tournament. Alternatively, maybe highlight newly assigned games on the “In Progress” tab.
Sort matches by arena name for Strikes Tournaments (or provide sort options).
Thank you for the your feedback – I really appreciate it! I really like the idea of popping up a confirmation with the game details when an arena has been assigned.
The sorting depends on the tournament settings. If a tournament uses swiss pairings then matches are listed in the order they were created (from the highest seed to the lowest seed) and that can be pretty useful. If the tournament uses balanced pairings then the order is indeed random. I have to think about this a bit more. My gut feeling the solution is to let you choose how to sort rather than deciding that one sort is always better than another…
I’m a fully paid up subscriber (Patron) on Match Play, but I seem to remember that free accounts could set up a limited number of tournament formats?
Is there a page/list/something that shows the tournament formats that free accounts can setup somewhere without me having to fake signing up again? Apologies if it’s there somewhere, I just can’t find it.
I don’t know if this proposal for more honesty has ever been suggested in Pingolf.
In a future version you could perhaps create groups of 2, 3 or 4 players. One player in this group could enter the results after each game in the presence of the other players and document them with a photo, as it is also possible in “Best Game”.
One of the scorekeepers then confirms the result. Of course, no scorekeeper will always check the results, but those who enter the results know that they can be checked.
