Wtf? So buying a 7-11,000 game doesn’t mean you’ll have access to complete code? I mean the extra modes with unattainable toppers is annoying, but this seems to open the door to what? Pay for complete code? Pay for Extra wizard mode?
Quote from George Gomez - “Our existing Insider All-Access player loyalty program also joins the system. All-Access Connected is a subscription version of the experience, focused on providing additional player features along with behind-the-scenes development stuff, early access, special events and quests. In the future, we intend to create exclusive game extensions, such as special access to new modes or new rules and features to increase the All-Access Connected value.”
when was the last time you spent money on a stern and got all the code? You drop 8k now to get part of the code then hope they will finish is in a year or 2.
Also, if the game is “complete” what are you adding? If your game doesn’t have these modes/rules/extensions (more key words) is your game still complete? If I pause my subscription do I lose access to these ads-one? Do they transfer to the new owner? I mean it’s a slippery slope to not be up front about what your game may or may not include? What exactly do you get when “buying” a game?
So if JP added another random mode that had nothing to do with the main core features of the game you’d be mad if you had to pay for it? Why? Don’t you love the game as is?
My issue is mostly with being up front with the customer. If you are buying a game that will need a subscription service to complete it you should be upfront about that.
They are being up front. See the post above. They have spoken publicly about all this stuff. We will still get 1.00 code plus bug fixes and scoring balances like we always have. The connected stuff is purely extras.
I understand the concerns people are having, especially seeing as how it hasn’t been clearly explained what will be “added” with Insider Connected. But I think it’s pretty optimistic to think that any type of player-enabled DLC doesn’t have potential to be a slippery slope. Stern decides what is “1.00” code so the ball is in their court as to what is considered “extra.” For example, I wouldn’t be surprised if things like JP Escape Nublar Challenge, TMNT Final Battle Challenge, AIQ Battle Royale Challenge and especially TMNT Half Shell Challenge will instead be All-Access (Paid) Insider Connected type features for future games.
I’ve been very cautious not to think the worst about this and I’m actually pretty excited for what it could offer. But really we’re all just going to have to wait and see what direction Stern actually goes with it.
Right, I think it’s fair for the consumer to know exactly what they are getting when they buy a game. If a feature like Escape Nublar will only be available to subscribers they should let buyers know.
Good question. But really not sure what they are supposed to do except have a spot that says it comes with connected and what that is. Then explain what is involved with the paid version should you want that. I don’t think they say anything about that under the actual game because there’s nothing to say.
You’re assuming they are using this new feature to give us less. I’m saying that’s probably not the case. It’s only adding an option to give us more than what we’ve gotten in the past. Some is included, some isn’t.
I’d rather not guess what is included with a significant purchase, that’s my point. Maybe we will learn more Friday, but if something like Escape Nublar is only available by DLC, as a consumer, I’d like to know.
I just don’t get why thats the reaction to this release. You’re not guessing what’s in the purchase of your game. You’re guessing what’s in the optional add on. You’re getting everything you’ve always gotten. Now you can just get more if you want.
Also I would be surprised if we see any added optional pay for code for any game in the next year. Hopefully I’m wrong.
But I fully expect that if JP were to get this treatment it would be the game you know and love plus an additional mode that would let you get on another island.
But there’s no way the pay for stuff will be stuff that’s supposed to be in the game from jump.
To use JP as an example. It would never come out without the final wizard mode and you have to pay for it.
@chuckwurt Someone else speculated that the ability to play Escape Nublar outside of regular play could be an example of an unlockable(pay to play) mode. You think that’s a stretch?
I think the reason for this is because they’ve still got a ways to go before they start implementing the paid option. Since the launch features focus on player-oriented stuff (achievements, quests, etc.), Stern chose to advertise those and presumably leave the rest for later.
I know that having to do some digging to learn that they’re planning a paid option later on is hardly the best look for the company - part of the reason I made the OP in the first place was because I wanted to get all the information collected in a single place - but I feel like they’re damned if they do, damned if they don’t here. If they make a big deal out of this, then people will call them greedy immediately (and some people might misinterpret it and think that the entire system is a paid subscription). If they only highlight it later on, then people will call them greedy and think they’re deceptive on top of that.
