Pinball manufacturers: Please add easy HDMI output for streamers!

Thanks for checking it out!

I was looking for an eDP–>HDMI adapter, but I was only able to find HDMI —>eDP adapters. I don’t think they would work in reverse. If there was a way do a 30-pin eDP to LVDS, that would work too, but I am not sure if that’s possible.

EDP is a replacement for LVDS in the high bandwidth high frame rate world of gaming laptops really, its getting harder to find LVDS screens. (eventually stern will have to move).

I spoke to Randy and guys at colordmd about an HDMI out but the cost to add HDMI is quite high. (if you license the tech properly). maybe that port on the board is going to do something with it soon?

Neil.

If you have multiple Stern games you stream, do you purchase a LVDS to HDMI Board for each? Seams like it would be cumbersome and time consuming to switch the same board from game to game.

yup

oh it went beyond crazy when I worked out how much Id spent just on HDMI cables. If I die remember to add 50% if any of you buy my gear when my wife tries to move it on

Neil, I appreciate your research! I"m very surprised that there isn’t an eDPR splitter on the market like the LVDS one. I wonder if ColorDMD would be willing to add that LVDS out on the board? Then I could use the LVDS splitter from the Stern games…At any rate, I’m able to get direct video from all my other games thanks to everyone’s help in this thread!

not really surprised that there isn’t a splitter; its a super niche requirement eventually it might arrive but I think converting that back to HDMI will be challenging if you look at the spec for EDP. The stuff we have used for stern is effectively testing equipment that fortunately does what we need. if you want LVDS on colordmd look for an older version of it. but it comes with a different connector thats not so easy to swap in and out.

Thanks to everyone and their hard work in troubleshooting all of this. I have ordered my LVDS Board and cable. Now the question I have is regarding direct game audio. As I understand it, you can connect via the LVDS Board or other audio outputs like a PinSub kit. When you do that, is there still normal game sound from the speakers? Is there any feedback issues with a player mic, say a snowball? I see Karl and others using a headset. Is that the best option in terms of overall quality for this situation? Thanks.

if you have direct and a mic with the sound coming out the game you’ll get an echo like sound. You can put the sound into the LVDS board with some work but I think it’s better to take it to an audio mixing desk and take your sound via headset from that. I do this at big event streaming, but at home or just messing around I let the sound of the game be picked up by the blue yeti I use.

Lots of folks use the pinovators sub kit for audio out. I use it on older games but then use the stern headphone kit for stern spike2 games.

Ok tried hard to make this work but too many questionable components to know why it isn’t.

Going to order a double LVDS board and try again not sure that the board is getting the power it needs either - any tips on how to check that appreciated.

I had a bunch of LVDS boards that I thought were double 8 (which also might be a problem as colordmd looks like a double Channel 6bit ) and they might just be dead single 8 boards - will try again soon.

Neil.

Hey everyone. New guys here. From the thread it looks like there are two methods. @mwelsh started with a separate split before the LVDS to HDMI on page 48. Then @GeekGamerTV used the passive bypass which removes the need for the first splitter on page 67. There are a few mentions that using the LVDS display during streaming has mixed results in games like JP. If we want to use the LVDS display during streaming is one solution more stable than the other? Maybe having the split before the LVDS -> HDMI takes some bandwidth off of the card?

I don’t have any problems with JP2 more than any other games.

It’s only the left ramp that causes wonky ness… I’ve seen it on Karl’s stream too. Must be some interference of some kind

Interference could come from the magnet in the trex. Electronics don’t like magnets.

I’ll do a stream of my JP2 today and see if I get that - I do see the LVDS board occasionally glitch But not sure on this issue. I’d expect b66 stranger things gotg to also cause interference if it was magnet related but I don’t see that.

Shoutout to @DEADFLIP for keeping us updated on an official Stern release. Of course no release date but seeing this is having me shy away from making my own at this point. The prototype looks pretty slick!

Hopefully coming VERY soon. Projects like this got put on the back-burner when covid dropped. Now that things are moving again, I’ll keep you updated!

Have you tested this with a wireless hdmi transmitter? Wondering if there are any issues with that.
