PAPA Hotels

With the IFPA/PAPA extravaganza this year, I think I might look into cheaper options besides the Courtyard marriott for hotels.

I can’t remember all the hotels that have been terrible for people - I know there were a few that were nightmares. Anyone want to share?

Anyone try these?

Extended Stay America - Pittsburgh - Carnegie

or

Red Roof Plus Pittsburgh South Airport (apparently near the Giant Eagle)

I’ve stayed at this hotel a couple of times and had no issues with it—rooms were clean, no service issues and it’s close, but I seem to recall it being more average price wise. There are definitely cheaper options out towards the airport.

Stayed there a few times without a problem. Many restaurants near by as well. Very convenient.

The “oh god no” hotels are the Knights Inn and the Clarion – the Clarion no longer exists, and is now a crappy Crowne Plaza owned by the same people.

Cayle, I’ve stayed at both of those. I would not go back to ESA. Rooms are extremely outdated. Hard to get towels, hair dryer, coffee for the room, etc.

Red Roof is very acceptable. Fairly priced and fairly clean. Nothing fancy but really not too bad. Great place for breakfast in the same parking lot. Also a MickyDee’s right next door.

Plus red roof allow dogs so that’s always a plus!

Never had a problem with the Microtel @ Settler’s Ridge. Despite the weird name it’s just a surprisingly decent normal hotel (a step above Red Roof).

Last year at PAPA my roommate had some shit stolen out of our room at the Red Roof. We’re 100% sure the door was locked, so some funny business must have gone on.

Extended Stay is also fine but as others have mentioned, doesn’t seem to usually be that cheap compared to other options.

That Red Roof is my go-to and has always been fine. Simple and clean.

The extended stay is good, I’ve been there once, no issues. It’s especially nice because it’s so close.

I did not like the (I think) motel 6. There was a courtyard in the middle where people were hanging out all night and being loud. It was just kind of crowded and I didn’t feel particularly safe. On top of that, my roommate might have been approached by a prostitute in the lobby while getting a coffee at 7 in the morning.

I prefer the “oh god no” Knights Inn which @bkerins mentioned. It has a mini fridge for beer, is maybe 60/night, and takes less than 5 minutes to get to PAPA from the parking lot maybe hitting 2 traffic lights total. They also have free continental breakfast and the staff is friendly. I’ve stayed there since PAPA16 and it hasn’t really gotten any better or worse. I wouldn’t necessarily recommend it though if you prefer something nice…you get what you pay for.

I’d say in your case go with the extended stay

There’s also hotels at South Pointe, toward the casino. Worth taking a look, if you’re thinking outside the box.

Bridgeville Knights Inn permanently closed :frowning:

It was dead to me a long time ago!

Also…heard someone got extended stay carnegie using priceline’s “name your own price” feature for 44/night. Good deal and a quick drive!
