Balanced is your best bet. I participated in a tournament set to random arenas and got the same arena 3 rounds in a row. It’s truly random. Balanced is at least attempting to put you on an arena played the least by all players in the group.
Random will give you MORE repeats. Balanced will give you FEWER repeats
@haugstrup … sorry, I wasn’t clear with my question:
Yes, I plan to continue to use Balanced for Arenas. My question is if I used Random for Player Order, will that help the MP Balanced algorithm for Arenas to produce less repeats than when using Balanced for both Arenas and Player Order?
Player order doesn’t affect arena choice at all (group pairings do) so it’d make no difference to change player order to random.
Changing player pairing to random… might? I can’t really think it through. I doubt it’d make a meaningful difference.
I thought – from a prior post or conversation – that the algorithm prioritized ensuring less Order repeats in Balanced Order, over ensuring less Arena repeats in Balanced Arenas. I must have been mistaken.
I think it goes, player pairings, arenas, everything else.
Yup, this is right. It’s the player pairings that limit the choices when distributing arenas.
Is there a way to make a finals for a tournament series, i.e. for a league, create finals tournament using series standings as seeding and not have it contribute to the “drop two worst” set?
And I think a small bug report, if you run a tournament and start multiple concurrent rounds, then delete some of those rounds, clicking on a player will show their deleted rounds under active rounds
I’ve got nothing built in (some day…). The best option is to create a standalone tournament that’s not connected to the series.
I’m running a fun selfie tournament as part of our local arcade’s 24-hour 10th anniversary party, so I’ve got automatic approval set up for scores so that people can see the standings in real-time. Unfortunately, someone fat-fingered their score and it doesn’t match the photo they submitted. My only option appears to be to delete it, not edit. I thought maybe I could save the photo and then resubmit the score, but the way the photo is presented, it’s not easily saved. I could do a screenshot, which is what I’ll end up doing if I need to, but is there any other way to adjust a score?
I honestly can’t remember what I have or haven’t added, but if there isn’t a prominent “edit” button I probably didn’t make that possible. I highly suggest making it the player’s problem: Delete the score and ask the player to re-submit?
Is a premium subscription required now to host tournaments with more than 32 people?
A premium subscription has always been required for tournaments with more than 32 players. That’s been true since Match Play was created in 2015
I’m wanting to run a classic target match play event.
Tried running a test tournament but I can’t seem to see where to set my target (24) I can set rounds and a cutoff line of 16 players but not a point target.
Also how do I draw ties as we will have a time cutoff and might need a tie breaker.
Tia!!
If you’re not seeing the “Target points” option the most likely explanation is that you haven’t picked “Target match play” as the tournament format. Maybe you picked “Group match play” instead?
Tiebreakers are up to the TD to decide. People do different things.
Ahhh yes!! That was it lol. Thank you
Ok another question.
I’m running a classic target matchplay tournament with a cutoff of 24, however we are also having a time cutoff.
How do I set up tie breakers if needed?
If for IFPA, and you are trying for more than 100% TGP, you have to play out all tiebreakers. So anyone tied at the cut line you have a one ball or one game or timed playoff with them to determine who is in and who is out.
Yes it’s for ifpa.
I understand we need to play it out, I just can’t see in matchplay how to make a tie breaker.
Just have to use the standings list. Then you can run a random game with the randomizer.
