you have to play out meaningful ties, i.e. the bye line at #8 (I think?), the cut line at #24, you don’t have to play out two people ending the tournament in 33rd place with the same points.
I believe they are asking about people tied at the cut line after qualifying. I think that’s meaningful. You’re right on byes too
Pressing Open big screen view now opens it in the same tab as the tournament. It used to open it in a new tab that could be moved to a different screen which was a lot better imo. Bug on my end or feature?
Hold down the ctrl
key while clicking the link (on Windows) or cmd
key (on Mac) to open in a new tab
Right click, choose open in new window.
suggestion: include a way for broadcasters (not neccessarily the TD or player in a match) to adjust player order but in a way that solely affects the broadcast view, in order to correct player order for the stream in formats where players pick their own order
Following up on the request for a pop-up with the game assignment when arenas open up during a strikes tournament and/or the ability to sort matches to make it easier to find newly assigned games. Our regular monthly TD was complaining about it again. @haugstrup, do you have a rough idea of when either feature might be implemented? Are you still using a feature request system that I should be submitting to instead?
are there any plans to bolster the single elimination format? It would be really nice to be able to enter individual game arenas, scores, and results.
I had to shut down the feature request system because the company stopped offering free plans. I would’ve switched to a paid plan but their pricing was totally out of control (like $80/month or something silly). There’s no public feature request tracking system anymore. I’d like to find a replacement but haven’t had time.
I can’t give any kind of time estimates. There are too many variables, but within MP but also like how busy my day job is (it pays the rent so it takes precedence). I know it’s unsatisfying but all I can say is thank you for telling me it’s still something that causes you trouble.
I don’t have any immediate plans. I’d like to improve single elimination brackets in the way you describe (and you’re not the only one making the request). Unfortunately, the way the database is structured makes it rather difficult to add that exact feature. There’s literally nowhere in the database to put the information.
Another feature request for strikes tournaments: the ability to remove arenas when there are none left to assign.
Our local monthly 3-strike tournament consistently has more pairs of players than games. If a game goes down in the first round, there’s no way to assign that group to another machine, so you have to remember that they are waiting around for a machine to free up rather than being able to add them to the group with No Arena. It would be nice for there to be “de-assign arena” or something similar available in the Change Arena option.
Thanks for your continued great work!
That’s a good idea. I added a Remove existing arena
to the dialog that shows up when you click Change arena
so you can do it there now:
should it also have disable so you can just temp remove an game?
I don’t think I understand. Can you use more words?
you can remove but not just disable the arena and keep it in the list as not active?
If you’re going to temporarily remove a game, temporarily deactivate it. I think adding another option would be unnecessary when the tools already exist to do what you’re asking for.
@haugstrup I have done a test and see that I can run some rounds balanced and then switch to Swiss. The system acts as I would expect it to under those circumstances in my test, but before I make this my plan, I just want to make sure there aren’t any oddities I may expect to occur by switching the pairing method midway through a tournament?
I’m planning a Critical Hit event and I want the initial qualifying rounds to be balanced so that Insanity cards can truly shake up the groupings, but I want the final round swiss so that the players with similar standing are playing against each other in the final round (all players are playing for a trophy in the final round, so I don’t want that round random/balanced).
I’m so happy to see people discover this little added bit of flexibility. Only thing to be cognizant of is that your tournament always has to be able to comply with the requirements of the pairing system you switch to.
Neither balanced or swiss have special requirements and you should be able to switch between them freely (an example of a special requirement: tiered swiss requires you to have at least 16 players)
Yesterday evening we played our league in Max-Matchplay. For the first time it happened for me that one player did not have to play the indicated rounds of 12 but 13. While another player was only drawn 11 rounds. By the way, this player with name “Günter Weidenauer” joined later:
Here you see the last round drawn after player “Martin Hotze” alredy playd his round 12:
Max Matchplay is for me the best head-to-head tournament in Matchplay
There was once a suggestion to let players pause via a pause button.
This would help to solve the few weaknesses of Max Matchplay like:
-
if a player really wants to take a break, for example to eat something, he could do so without stress.
-
Since most tournament directors (at least in Europe) do not delete players who have played at least 50% of the rounds, but count all games that are still pending as lost, it would be much fairer to use the pause function to leave the player inactive until the end of the tournament (only for Round Robin it makes no sense)
-
It is not easy and very time-consuming to control that players who have played many more games than others are not drawn so that it works out well in the end. This could be solved very easily using a “player-pause” button
Hey Andreas,
What’s the reasoning behind removing the ‘preferred arena’ on some formats like Max Matchplay?
Also, the group elimination final big screen view used to show all the matches with the points and scores. Now it just shows the current games with play order like normal group Matchplay. No scores or more info.
