I was using 20% for every mode as a baseline. Wonder if Scars has extra scoring adjustments based on whether or not the lookout tower targets were hit, both for the mode shot and then also the encounter jackpot. I’ll try to pay more attention

Also wasn’t aware it’s not 20% for all 5. You happen to have those breakdowns?

New issue I found: Hit last shot to qualify search/rescue multiball while having ball return and trigger start of quint’s challenge. Ball is held at right flipper with up post. Quint’s challenge instructions play, pick a mball, mball begins, quint’s challenge doesn’t start or stack, and is gone after mball ends.

Does anyone have a good understanding of how the Hammerhead Bounty perk regarding holding “Beach Closed values” actually works?

I’ve captured the Hammerhead quite a number of times, and I’ve yet to see any perk value there. Example: In the opening round, I close the left beach for 30m points (it’s one of my last ones), and with Hammerhead captured, I’m assuming that value will somehow be important post-Rescue multiball. Nope. Next beach close there is 6m points. So it’s clearly not a “cumulative” point value where my round 1 “closed value” is stacked with my round 2 value, and I get A+B as my point total for the second close.

I’ve also seen (in early code descriptions), some notion that when you hit the closed beach shot after it is closed, you get some defined % of the closing point value. That also seems untrue (and I assumed it was deprecated because of the ease of looping the center-right shots).

After at least a dozen caught Hammerheads, I’m scratching my head wondering if this whole “perk” is just deprecated code that doesn’t mean anything.

Help? Thoughts?

To clear things up:

  • Hammerhead holds the %ages of the closing point values.
  • The %ages of closing point values are only scored if the shot with the closed beach on it is lit during another mode. The %age won’t be scored if it isn’t lit for anything.

In addition, in my experience you get the beach closed value even if you don’t have the beach closed! (With hammer head perk post rescue)

My experience is the same as RayDay’s. Also, I think I found the source of your confusion:

If you got 30M points from a Beach Closed hurry-up, that must’ve been your 5th one because the first 4 can’t possibly be worth more than 16.5M. Every 5th Beach Closed hurry-up works differently than the rest because it’s worth significantly more but doesn’t boost subsequent values on that shot.

Example:

  1. You close the beaches at the left orbit, center ramp, reel, and right ramp, collecting a 15M Beach Closed hurry-up each time. Now these 4 shots all get +3M to every lit shot value.
  2. Now you close the beach at the wave ramp. Since this is the 5th beach closed, this Beach Closed hurry-up will have an initial value of 75M (15M + collected values from the last 4 beaches closed), but will not boost the value of the wave ramp.
  3. You play Search or Rescue Multiball. Now the shot value boosts are gone.
  4. You close the beach at the center ramp again, collecting a Beach Closed hurry-up for 18M. Now the center ramp gets +3.6M to every lit shot value.
  5. Then you capture Hammerhead. Now the center ramp gets +6.6M, while left orbit, reel, and right ramp get +3M, because the previous boosts are restored. Wave ramp still does not get any value boosts because it never got one to begin with.

Thank you sir. So, the crux of it seems to be the concept of “further lit shots.” (from the Wiki: “boosts all further lit shots to that closed beach by 20% of the hurry-up value”).

Thus, the ‘bonus’ points here are not an ‘open’ bonus for hitting the shot again, but rather an increase in the available points whenever that shot happens to be lit for something else in the game (which could be a shark encounter shot, a barrel shot, does this include lit shots during multiball?). And whatever that shot is worth under its normal lit/target shot status, it gets the +bonus value of up to +3M-ish.

Do we know for sure that the 5th hurry-up “does not boost subsequent lit shots when collected,” or is that simply a function of the fact that the 5th hurryup will put you straight into Search/Rescue resulting in loss of the bonus unless you’ve caught the Hammerhead?

I thought it didn’t, because the first 4 hurry-ups, when collected, also say “[shot name] values increased [value]”, e.g. “North Beach values increased 3,000,000”, while the 5th one doesn’t. But I went and checked one of Karl DeAngelo’s gameplay videos (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7fVazJdhf_8) and it turns out it does give a value boost if you’ve caught Hammerhead, but the value is calculated differently. I suspect it’s 20% of what the value would’ve been if not for the boosted value for being the 5th hurry-up.

16:56 - 4th Beach Closed hurry-up collected at left orbit (West Beach), value boost message displayed.
18:29 - 5th Beach Closed hurry-up collected at center ramp (North Beach) at nearly full value, no value boost message.
30:59 - 6th Beach Closed hurry-up collected at center ramp (North Beach), values boosted 3,285,200.
38:16 - Hammerhead Shark caught
38:37 - Center ramp shot, 1,150,000 jackpot plus value boost gives 7,396,100, which implies a value boost of 6,246,100. The beach closed sign rounds the value boost to “6.25M”. Subtracting the 3,285,200 from the 6th hurry-up implies the 5th hurry-up gave a value boost of 2,960,900.

Turns out I was wrong, it is indeed a function of Search/Rescue MB starting immediately afterwards. I’ll update the wiki accordingly. Thanks for catching this!

Edit: Just noticed at 20:46 in the same video, a 2.96M value boost from the 5th hurry-up gets applied to a lit shot in Victory Combos MB, but during Search Multiball the value boosts weren’t being applied.

All your descriptions in your previous post and this are correct in my experience.

The value boosts don’t apply during Search or Rescue MBs. The rule is that the boosts last until Search/Rescue starts, and then if you have the Hammerhead bounty, then they are restored afterwards. So they’re never active during Search/Rescue. (The rule is a little clunky, true.)

There does seem to be one oddity, in that the value boosts are disabled during Search/Rescue MB but return for Victory Combos if Search/Rescue MB was completed successfully, regardless of whether or not Hammerhead has been caught.

You can see it in the video I linked above. At 20:46, Karl gets a value boost during Victory Combos after completing Search Multiball, but he doesn’t catch Hammerhead until 38:16.

After you play all the Modes and 4th of July - and you play the modes again- it’s like a super mode you have to complete in 30 seconds - any tips for these because it seems impossible to complete any of them. Any tips?

It can be done. Just don’t trap, and don’t miss too much :smiley:
