AI Pinball Is Coming For Us

Should be interesting to see if, or how fast this evolves.

USB camera! :joy:

They need an SDI camera to get into the single digit milliseconds input lag. USB is >100ms for a bog standard UVC like that one.

can it do multi ball?

Does it know about game rules?

Games that have action buttons?

Games with video modes / choices made in game?

Does it need to?

If it finds one repeatable shot, that’s all it needs to win.

There’s no reason it CAN’T learn depth and apply game rules, but for a tech demo/proof of concept, it’s interesting.

kick outs getting weaker? flipper getting weaker?
An game that turns off an shot after so meny points.

If you haven’t experienced AI that can dynamically control things in an evolving environment then you can’t really gauge I guess. Ride in a Waymo or Tesla with FSD in heavy wind, the car just handles it.

So yes, even with a flipper or eject weakening, the AI could either adjust, find a new shot, find a repeatable combo. AI today is the worst it will ever be.

I’m not saying it will be winning championships, I just feel that doubting it’s potential without considering what is already possible in other areas is very short sighted.

It might not also be about competing. This could augment machine testing or play testing in the virtual environment given I assume machines already have 3d models if not with physics engines and stuff built in.
And this is more to show off their AI coding project, but it’s still a pretty neat demonstration.

AI is garbage and if AI is what is causing issues with the D/D game I just got then I m going to have to return it. The flippers are funky and the Dragon Multi Ball goes dark BEFORE BEFORE there is a loss to Rath. I m not buying any more pins if AI is a part of it. And major thumbs down to all DATA CENTERS that will jack your electricity rates to triple digits!! Peace

I owned a Tesla with FSD. That feature was garbage and regularly tried to kill me. AI slop garbage is ruining the internet and the earth. This is a trash idea from the dumpster of AI brain rot.

I hope whoever is working on this steps in dog shit every day of their life.

In response to your questions: I think all of these can be learned in time with good programming. I dont know if this project will continue to advance because I dont see what benefit there is in general to making a quality AI pinball player.

I hope it continues because I think this project may yield new flipper techniques. New concepts.
