2023 YEGPIN Pinball and Arcade Expo (July 20 - 23, 2023)

Die Hard Pinball League (DHPL) is super pumped to announce YEGPIN: 2023 Pinball and Arcade Expo is officially scheduled for July 20 – 23, 2023 at Millennium Place in Sherwood Park, Alberta, Canada.

DHPL is a non-profit society in Alberta with a mission to:

  1. Grow the hobby of pinball and arcade
  2. Provide an outlet for competitive pinball
  3. To donate and support organizations that fight Cancer.

In 2022, over 1,500 pinball and arcade enthusiasts attended YEGPIN. We had 5 world class pinball tournaments including the main event, which will be a 2023 Stern Circuit Event once again. The YEGPIN Match Play Championship featured 20 banks of machines (80 machines) and ran over 3 days of competition. We have an excellent track record of delivering a world-class pinball and arcade show; this is due to the unwavering support from our volunteers, machine donors, technicians, competitors and enthusiasts.

YEGPIN 2023 will again feature two full arenas, 30,000 square feet of pinball and arcade gaming and will be 4 full days of celebration and competition. We have a dedicated arena to hold all of our pinball tournaments, and will be our home for the Stern Circuit event YEGPIN Match Play Championships. There will be three other IFPA sanctioned events and the Youth Canadian Pinball Championships. Arena 1 will be fully open to the public on Thursday and Friday, but will have no play access to Arena 2 as that will be dedicated to tournament play. On Saturday and Sunday, both arena’s will open up to the public with a small portion that is dedicated to tournament play for those days.

cool!

How does the schedule work - Do players have time to compete in everything?

It worked out last year, I think for the most part people got to participate in all events. Whether in between their rounds, during dinner breaks or after the match play was done. There was always a lot of downtime in Pinburgh and we have used our extra tournaments to fill in that downtime if you choose to use it that way.

Gotcha, will there be a schedule up for hours/times of each of the events?

Yes, we had time to play Classics and Pro around the match play event. Time for many tries at Classics and multiple cards in Pro. There were open times when the Pro bank had multiple empty queues, too. Still had some leftover time to play the floor games as well, some were custom ones worth a game or three. Schedule worked pretty well for competition, just a bit awkward at times re food, but Pinburgh was the same, and here there was some food onsite and much more in quick walking distance vs. Pinburgh.

Yes once the website goes live there will be the full detailed schedule for every event as there was last year, we are also going to incorporate the schedule on the lanyard we provide you this year for clarity once you are at the event.

Bottom line all rounds are 2 hours for the 2023 show and the matches start at 10:00am. Here is an example of what Thursday looks like…

Schedule

Thursday, July 21 – Day 1

Time Event
8:00AM – 9:30AM Registration
8:45AM – 9:30AM Practice Session (Registered Players Only)
9:30AM – 10:00AM Waitlist Additions, Final Repairs/Adjustments, Brackets Created, Orientation
10:00AM – 12:00PM Round 1 – YEGPIN Match Play Championship
12:00PM – 2:00PM Round 2 – YEGPIN Match Play Championship
2:00PM – 4:00PM Round 3 – YEGPIN Match Play Championship
4:00PM – 6:00PM Dinner Break
6:00PM – 8:00PM Round 4 – YEGPIN Match Play Championship
8:00PM – 10:00PM Round 5 – YEGPIN Match Play Championship

Friday is similar just starts at 10:00am, and Saturday is playoff rounds…

I take it from this that you need to choose between Open Match Play and Women’s Match Play?

EDIT: Actually, upon closer inspection, it looks like there may only be a conflict with Open Match Play finals. My bad.

If there is a women that makes the finals then the women match tournament is delayed until they are done. We did not have a conflict in the first year, women can play in every event and make the finals in every event without overlap.

We are one week away from the official ticket sales for our pinball tournaments at YEGPIN-Pinball & Arcade Expo. Here are so things to know.

  1. Go directly to the Eventbrite ticket site and get ready to hit your F5 when ticket sales will magically open right at 12:00PM MST.
    https://www.eventbrite.ca/.../2023-yegpin-pinball-and

  2. There are only three types of ticket available; Hardcore Pass, Combo Pass, Women’s Match Play Championship. Please note all passes this year come with a 4 day all exclusive entry pass built into them (Women’s does not) so there is no need to purchase a separate weekend pass for the event this year. All details are on the website, please refer to there to understand each package.

  3. You can purchase up to two tickets for each ticket at a time, so if you are going with someone a great chance to get it done in one transaction. Be careful not to duplicate purchases, if you do, they can be refunded but will only be refunded at 75% of your purchase minus the Eventbrite fees (You have been warned!!!)

  4. We will want so information from you like passholder, address, IFPA Number (if new put N/A), Pinball League Affiliation (Club League is none put N/A).

  5. You can add a shirt, hoodie or zip up at any point I would suggest doing it in a separate transaction as you want to make sure you secure your Passes first in case there is a mad rush of people wanting to purchase them.

  6. If tickets fully sellout on the first day, we will setup a ticket for the waitlist and that will start on February 18th, 2023 at 12:00PM MST. If at anytime the show sells out we will announce when the waitlist will be available to everyone.

For everyone else in the general public weekend and day passes will go on sale starting January 18th, 2023. These will be on sale until June 1, 2023, after that date all passes for the show will need to be purchased at the show at our registration desk.

May the luck be ever in your favor and see you all at YEGPIN-Pinball & Arcade Expo

Did YEGPin sell out or are there still spots available?

the link you’ve shared seems to be broken

Weird tickets go on sale on Saturday at 12PM MST…

haha, whoops, I’m an idiot. I thought those started selling last weekend.

tickets on sale now (or are they already sold out?!)

Purchased the hardcore ticket option. Was a smooth transaction this time around. Last I checked the combo option had sold out but there were many hardcore tickets available. Let’s hope I can use all of my pro tournament entries in time.

There will be plenty of time in between rounds and after the Match Play qualifying to get in entries for both Pro and Knockout Cancer. The beauty of the format is that you won’t get too much downtime if you don’t want it… There is always some kind of tournament to play in…

site said 80 of the Hardcore Bundles were for sale - saw that Sanjay got one and it says 80 left right now

  • did you make more available? or is the site slower to update the quantities?

There are 160 Hardcore bundles available and 80 Combo bundles available… Based on how the Hardcore sell this year we may revisit the mix we use for future shows. Maybe 128 for Hardcore and 112 for Combo is the right mix, we wanted to try to get three certified plus tournaments for you all so we will see how the hardcore sells this year and can tweak for future years. I know there are a few people disappointed they were not able to get Combos this year.

A great day for ticket sales on day one for the event.

Combo Passes - Sold Out
Hardcore Passes - 60 remain
Women’s - 1 remains

180 competitors signed up for Match Play Championship and Knockout Cancer Pinball Tournament - Certified Plus

100 competitors signed up for Pro Pinball need 28 more entries by June 1 to make it Certified Plus

63 competitors signed up for Women’s Match Play making it one of the largest women’s specific pinball tournaments on the calendar, we might be looking to increase this tournament in 2024 now that is on track to sell out.

Any tickets that sellout we will look to increase next year as we do have the space, capacity and machines to deliver a much bigger tournament.
