It may be a bit too soon and It may be good to see what ideas the MLB, NHL, NBA have for there sports.
Other them maybe some 50% of the year rule where all old points for the year are wiped or seen as half 1 and the rest of the year is half 2. And then Half 1 and Half 2 grouping are used to to seed the SCS can only be in the highest half for 1 state.
I foresee serious problems if at some point thereās a loosening that says āgroups are now ok up to size Xā, e.g.25 or 50. Then everything more than a league weekly (and even some of those) would end up with a Pinburgh-style registration nightmare. Only fair way would be lotteries and rationing. May want to be proactive and think about how to deal with it if needed. Likewise if some areas free up before others or to different degrees, how does one create geographic equity?
also things like World Pinball Championship, stern pro , papa circuit finals (Rankings from last year) should not count for what ever state they are moved to this year.
Also what if the ifpa is forced to open stuff like that is forced to open to any one just to fill the field? say people do not want to / canāt travel to them?
IFPA World Pinball Championship! end of May I donāt really see many people from the EU comping to the USA by that time. Pushing events back to unknown time makes travel hard / locals only.
Power 100 may want to kill that this year due lots of big shows being killed all ready.
Do not count the SCS for last year or maybe in the cases where itās the line for someone to be in or out then have an play in round to see who getās in.
Some ideas for smaller stuff.
SCS getās modded + some reweighing of points before the cut off or cut into some other bracket to be more about the smaller Local events that at happen local arcades / bars that can really use the income.
NO IFPA dollar fees for a time to help places (tip the barkeeper)
NO IFPA fees this year and all that you got so far is donated
Maybe a few NO IFPA fees charity events
More to come later one. I want to see what the other PRO sports do.
This is a lot, and I hope we give IFPA or any other organization plenty of time and leeway to make decisions. Timing of events, in particular, will be very difficult to get right.
I think that if the state champs were open-registration, it could bring a whole lot of us to one big day of tournaments. Entry fees for the open-reg events could drive state and national prize pools the way that dollar fees have done. Itāll just be nice to play pinball with everyone again! Some difficulties with this would be coming up with a format that ends promptly enough for wider fields, and that this competes with the usual ātry to make the state top 16 or 24ā that has been the driver in other years.
One format option could be a two-day event, with a first day of match play bringing it down to a final 16 and the second day playing like the state champs currently do.
Regardless, thanks to IFPA for their efforts and I am confident their decisions will be well-reasoned and supportive of us all.
Maybe some thing in the middle or at very least an fair way to even out the per pandemic participation levels / leagues that where cut off early with no finals and maybe uneven game play levels across all players. VS lower post levels.
And if people donāt want to take long trips (May even metro area based mods to the sate lines may be needed if State X opens before State Y)
IF NO SCS this year in all or most states then DONATE the IFPA fees.
Maybe let jacks bar in small town MT (only there as they have amtrak) with 1-2 beet down games be one the 3-4 sates with an SCS but donāt give the winner any kind of easy / free pass to the next round for free and have it be more of fun event no IFPA fees. And donāt tell people out of sate to use that as an open ticket to the next round.
Also My Metro area idea may help stop people rushing just over the sate line to go to an place that can have size 25-50+ from an state that can only have less / not open. To group them all as the same state / takes the lesser rule.
Maybe have very open and transparent ticket lotto rules for events that can max out fast if say 25-50 is ok in most areas. (No buy / email rush tickets)
The issue is in a state like Texas where there are hundreds of players is efficiently organizing such a tournament and doing so fairly and finding a venue that is appropriate. Thereās no way to know if 50 or 100 or 300 people would show up to an open SCS. Iām not saying its a bad idea but it does seem like a logistical nightmare
