Looks like that’s how they ended up ruling it, even though it sounds like his group and not he himself was questioning it?

If the ball is deflected by a bird or other creature during the shot, it’s play it where it lands; if in a hazard, too bad. If the shot has been made and the ball has come to rest and it is then moved by a bird or other animal, the ball may be replaced where it came to rest.

How did they rule on the pitch where Randy Johnson hit a bird? Ball? Redo?

It was a ball, but it was the most memorable ball in the history of MLB.

It was actually called a no pitch, but I would agree it was the most memorable in MLB history.
