Post Pinburgh reaction thread - how'd you do, how happy are you with it, etc?

I see a lot of complaints about the noise, but I thought the noise was very bearable…at least compared to other shows I have been to. Even when the bands were playing it was quiter and easier talk than at the Texas Pinball Festival. They have carpet there and no band playing, but it is considerably louder at TPF. I lose my voice every year at Texas from having to shout to talk to people.

I think the high ceilings helped with the noise.

You shouldn’t have to. That’s my fault, and I’ll try to ensure it doesn’t happen again. Also, you’re disqualified, sorry.

The noise wasn’t quite as bad as I was expecting given the lack of carpet. It was louder than at the PAPA facility for sure, but it was OK, and for relief you could go into the lobby or outside.

The high ceiling and big room was for sure the key to noise levels not being over intense.

Also the sound level on the games was generally very low.

The semis and finals can be seen here. Pretty sure they didn’t cover the earlier rounds.

Those will expire soon

Well, better watch it soon then

My Pinburgh experience was one of joy, with slight disappointment in my performance. I went into this, my 4th Pinburgh, with a lofty goal of making the top 40 in A division. I finished 106th in A division. Here is a recap of my rounds.

I too started the first round in a 3 player group. An Italian player(not Danielle A.) was a no show. We waited around for what seemed like 20 minutes before starting. I played decent and absolutely blew up the last game on Mata Hari. I took a 7.5. That pesky 1/2 point stayed with me for the next 2 days.

Round 2 included a dude I really like, Maurice P. from Canada. We all played like crap. Case in point: I won the game on TAF with 39M! I took an 8.

Round 3 I finally got to play Towlie for the first time.MB, Aztec, Escape from LW, Volcano. Those last two pins were steaming piles of crap. There was supposed to be a HS in the group but it was removed and replaced with Volcano. I was really disappointed in this round, since I can usually do really well on Aztec and bombed. I took a 5.

Round 4 I had a group with my good friend Andrew Rosa. It was a great set for me. WCS, Volley, Banzai Run, HG. Come from behind to take the win on WCS with about 900M. Came from behind on Banzai to take 2nd, something like 1.4M to 1.3M. Completely blew up HG compared to the other scores. Did come in last on Volley. I felt bad for Andrew cause he got only 2 points. I took a 9.

Round 5 Was another disappointment. I really don’t like I-500 and this one played tough as nails. 4MBC went well, LW3 was super competitive with 3 players over 100M. Embryon was supposed to be in the bank but was taken out for EBD. I scraped through with a 5.

So I had 34.5 wins after Day 1 and went into Day 2 ranked 124 in A division.

Round 6 was another group were a game I dearly love had been replaced with another. Grand Lizard taken out and replaced with Alien Poker. Due to that switch, I would actually end up playing Alien Poker twice on the second day. It did not help! I took a 6.

Round 7 was probably the most competitive and truly fun rounds I played in the tourney. The games were POTC(put in after TRS was removed), Argosy, Hook(put in after CFTBL was removed) and Fathom. My competitors were Steve Zahler, Mats Sahlberg and Jake Peterson. This was my 2nd time playing Jake in the tourney. Super good dude! We went toe to toe on Hook and POTC for so long, they yanked POTC out of the tourney as soon as we were done! I took an 8. Steve deservedly won the match with 9.

Round 8. Pretty disappointed in this round. I met Chris Frame and thoroughly enjoyed the competition. Another super good dude! Games were 24, Miss-O, POTO and Buck Rogers. I took a 6.

Round 9. This was my second time playing Jorian. He wiped the floor with us. I learned that Motor Dome is a steaming pile of turd. It was my worst round by far. I took a 2.

Round 10. No way to get into the finals now. Nice group of guys. Games were Mustang, Nip-It, Funhouse and once again Alien Poker. I played the strangest game of Mustang ever. Scored about 82M and never even started a gear MB. Not even 3rd gear MB! How is that even possible! I took an 8.

So I finished with 64.5 wins, about 6.5 points out of a tiebreaker for 40th position. All in all, this was my 2nd worst performance in 4 trips to Pinburgh, but I thoroughly enjoyed every second of it!

One very small thing that I noticed in the results that is wrong. For each player, it shows all the games played during the tourney. They are incorrect because whenever a machine goes down and another one is put in it’s place, that doesn’t get changed in the database. So for example, at the bottom of my results it shows that I played HS, Embryon, Grand Lizard, CFTBL, and TRS, although I never played any of those games.

This was my first Pinburgh, what a great time. I was a little worried there wouldn’t be enough time between rounds to eat, drink, and use the bathroom but that wasn’t the case at all. The rounds were spaces out perfectly.

I ended up in a group tied for 71st in A division somehow. I was only 4 points away from the top 40 and definitely let a few points slip away at least. I would have never even thought to wish to finish that close to the main playoffs.
