I think the only other option would be to eliminate restricted players after day 1, but that would obviously suck too.
I think at a minimum A division restrictions should be removed. Top 200 of the weekend play in A no exceptions
Wouldnāt this cause sandbagging though? And what do you do with the top players that tank and fall to E?
I donāt think top 100 players are here to sandbag. Iām not suggesting remove all restrictions. Just Div A
chuckwurt : Thank you!
I agree. So when an A player has a bad day one, where do you put them?
B because the restrictions in B still remain
Winner of B this year gets 4K I think, so I would absolutely be worried about A player sandbagging.
Tough call, but I think the current rules screw the least amount of people. Haha
Yes. Itās not like the organizers havenāt put a ton of thought into these things already. I doubt any of the people at the bottom of A or bottom of B are thinking, āI am getting some guaranteed WPPRs that I didnāt earnā. Theyāre thinking, āIām stuck at the bottom of my very competitive division and Iām at a big disadvantage because Iām 5 or more wins back from where the lowest ātrueā qualifiers are.ā
I played a few years ago and qualified in A around rank 100 and Iām really more of a C division skill level player. I was just bummed that I knew I was going to have to fight my hardest just to not finish in last place in A (I think I finished second to last). I donāt understand why anyone would care about WPPR points. For most of those players, itās not going to make a dent. For me, it maybe moved me up from a rank near 1,000 to around rank 900? Who cares!?!
Nope. Read the rules. Restrictions are based on your WPPR ranking and last years performance ONLY.
Your WPPR ranking is based on the last 3 years of overall performance.
(sorry, this was in response to chesh)
Take off your WPRR glassesā¦
There is big money on the table⦠for a lot of people. These rules keep people from trying to manipulate their way into easier money⦠taking away from others. The event is more about the competition and prizesā¦
Youāre fixated on someone getting WPRRs for just showing up⦠well that happens in most events that are big enough. Be it āqualifyingā or āwhich tournament you enteredā - its the same thing here⦠someone didnāt perform, they went to the bottom.
The guaranteed rounds and match play format of Pinburgh is what made the event stand out in the first place. Please lets not talk about how to make it like every other eventā¦
and what happens if say there some meany A division restrictions that you canāt get in A as unrestricted even with no losses at all?
Like I said, theyāve already thought of anything you can throw at them. There are 200 spots and if EVERY single top 100 IFPA player were in the tournament, there would still be 100 open spots.
Itās common knowledge how much effort and hard work goes into this event. Second-guessing them at this point is kind of insulting.
we call that āpointlessā - because when the restrictions no longer work or arenāt viable⦠they change them to adapt to what is needed for that year.
The restrictions model has changed multiple times⦠they learn, they adapt, they simplify.
Keep all restrictions except the A division restrictions. If someone earns their spot then they deserve it and if a top 100 player ends up in B then so be it. If youāre coming to pinburgh to win money you are doing it for the wrong reasons and will likely be disappointed
Nope!
Itās another one of the ābiggestā elements of Pinburgh. How many spots they payout!
Is there actually warm up at 9am for finals like the site says?
There is NO practice time allotted for finalists.
