New pinball skills tutorial videos: looking for feedback from high level players

Wow… this might be the best one yet, and that’s saying something. Great work!

Great work! One thing that’s omitted is the effect of double flippers on dead bounces. Similar to dead bounces that hit the bottom of the return lane metal guides above the flipper elbow, a dead bounce that hits the tip of the upper of the double flippers will often quick-drain along the face of the lower flipper and down the middle. Players can dead bounce off both upper and lower of doubled flippers, but it’s not always safe to do so off of the upper flipper on some games when one or more of these are true:

a. the distance to the opposite side flipper(s) is large;
b. the pitch of the game is shallow;
c. the ball’s incoming velocity is low

There’s also the situation where the doubled flippers are large and flat-angled such that a dead bounce off of the upper flipper can land on the same-side lower flipper. This would include games like Sinbad, King Kool and Pro Football.

I’ve been using the distinction “dead bounce vs. death bounce” for this exact situation, since it’s much more common on Classics games due to their age. I caution players in my Classics guide to test or observe the dead bounce reaction. It wasn’t common in Pittsburgh, nor with us at Indisc, but I’ve seen some less rigorous tournaments where players got unwelcome surprise drains that way.

@gammagoat
that would be nice, but as you said its quite specific and unfortunately I am not experienced in it.
If anyone is near Austria, Seefeld- I`d love to learn from you! Robert Sutter already visited my place :heart_eyes:
The second part of the video is not written yet so there is enough room for stuff and… there might be a third part…? :stuck_out_tongue:

@BMU
Ah, you are referring to the dead bounce video, which is already released.
The biggest downside of the series is the lack of older Pinball machines and me not knowing them.
So you will often hear me saying “…on modern machines” in the videos.

excellent video! especially like the showing of the inertia of the tilt bob on nudging “through” vs “at point of contact”. I’ve never been able to see this as a location player.

I also see high-level players almost “micro-vibrate” their bodies to bring the ball up and out of the outlane drain with about 80% success rate for this highly skilled players (e.g. @bkerins) not sure what that move is called.

another point that’s missed with beginners is what direction to nudge if the ball is dangling on the outpost

I thought the vibrating move is just called “shaking the outlane”, I`m curious.
How to nudge in specific situations will be in the second part :+1:

Completely agree on this, @ABE_FLIPS. As you finalize or adjust the script for that very helpful advice, you may want to mention that often the “at point of contact” nudge – although small in physical movement – often generates enough change in ball movement to get the desired result.

The “point of contact” was meant for " as hands touching the cabinet", not the “balls contact with a post”. :sweat_smile:
Anyway, since there is some free space for voice over, that should work, thanks! :grin:

I understood that. My meaning of what I said is that such “point of contact” nudging (as you have defined) is often plenty to get the desired physical effect on the ball, and nudging “through” the point of contact is overkill on the amount of force needed to get the ball movement that you want.

Wicked shimmy is definitely the name of that move and in my opinion, it’s far and away the coolest move in pinball. It defies gravity (ball goes up the outlane) and it’s relatively easy to do. Below is a video on it KME and his bro did years.

I would love to include some seconds of Robert Sutter in my nudging video.
Anyone from PAPA could give me a “permissions” to do so?
Its this video @ 02:09, with the awesome Ball Juggle repeating shot on ACDC

and here, two outlane saves starting @ 29:20, where he plays against Keith

Cheers

I remember watching that live and having my mind blown.

Worth pinging @PAPA_Doug or @mhs for permission, which I imagine they would grant, but always good to ask.

Here it is, thanks for the support, especially to Robert Sutter.
I hope you like how it turned out! :star_struck:

Fantastic stuff. Thanks @ABE_FLIPS!

I just caught a number of your videos for the first time today. They are outstanding. Thank you so much for doing it and doing it well. Cheers!

Love all your hard work @ABE_FLIPS.

Have you considered a video for the loop pass?

A skill I have yet to master :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

Same here. Is there more than a handful of games you can even do a loop pass on though?

Yes I did, but I wanted to show more important skills at first.
However, I have only had deadpool where i was able to do loop passes, so I might skip the loop pass for now. At every other game i owned they wheren`t working well or simply not possible, since you need a good orbit feed. Its quite a nice move if you can pull it off.

Iron Man, Deadpool, AFM. I can loop pass on my SW LE as well although it’s tight.
