Match Play Events: The Next Generation

Make sure you’re trying this before you hit start tournament.

must have been it, did a test tournament and it worked fine this time. let me select custom number of players into finals, went with dummy format then was able to change to group knockout before starting finals

If you find yourself in the situation with a started finals that you need to change in a major way you can always mark the finals as a test tournament, then delete it, then go back to the qualifying tournament and create playoffs again.

When displaying the in progress round you can tap/click Mine, Completed or In Progress to only show those, but you can never go back to showing all (no option for it).

And if you are only showing In Progress games and enter results all the options go away so there is no way to choose show Completed games. You can delete the results of a game if there was an error if you go to a player’s matches and select the game that way.

Click the selected option to reset. For example, if you’ve clicked “Mine” to show only your matches, click “Mine” a second time to reset your selection and show all matches

Ok, that works if there are still games in progress, but if I am down to one game and only showing in progress games, then after I enter that final game’s results it isn’t showing any games anymore (like it should because none are in progress) and the Mine/Completed/In Progress options disappear, so there is nothing to tap/click anymore!

And even if I start the next round and select from the dropdown to show the previous round it doesn’t show the games anymore.

Okay, should be better now :crossed_fingers:

This just about works! It’s a little janky as one room has only 4 pins in use compared to another with 15+ I wasn’t keen on the duplicating workaround as Matchplay won’t see it as the same game and players might get put on the same games .
But the results are good enough!

It would be good if there was an option for arena banks where the software will pick a different game from each bank in a balanced manner.

I had tried arena banks at home as we have pins in 3 different rooms, hoping it meant we could have a Matchplay comp without 8 people being crammed around two games in one room but arena banks only picks the first game in that bank rather than a random/balanced one.
I understand that’s because it’s intended to be for when a group plays a few matches together in a round but it would be nice to have more flexibility, especially if you have a smaller venue and want to manage space easily.

Duplicating games will not result in players being put on the same games because all the duplicates are in separate categories. You’re only drawing from one category each round.

This is what the “category banks” option does. Beware: It will assign the same arena multiple times if a category doesn’t have enough arenas to cover all groups.

PinTips in Match Play
PinTips in Match Play! Click any arena name when playing a tournament to view the PinTips (short playing tips) for that pinball machine. You can also vote for the best tips, add more tips and flag inaccurate tips directly from Match Play. And finally there’s a new PinTips page where you can search for any pinball machine and view tips.

I hope this will bring a fresh round of activity to PinTips. Especially newer machines don’t have many tips and I hope that having the tips more easily accessible will lead to people sharing more tips for machines that are lacking them.

The old PinTips.net website still exists, but is generally quite flaky. I recommend using Match Play for your PinTips needs. You can now do the same things in Match Play that you could on the PinTips website.

Exactly what does the blue check mark indicate next to player names? I thought it may have been having their IFPA number linked to their name, but that doesn’t seem to be the whole answer. I manually added a bunch of IFPA numbers for the player list on this event and most popped up with the blue check, but a few didn’t. Nothing critical, just a curiosity.

I am having a Foo Launch party tomorrow. I wanted to make it so the highest score recorded on Foo during the tournament got a cash prize. I am clear on how to get the game scores submitted for each game of Foo, but will the stats page show me that information as the tournament goes on? Or will I have to go back to each round to see what the scores on Foo were and keep track separately?

This is also a feature I hope to use at a future tournament where all scores are kept for one tournament, then those scores are used to determine pingolf targets for the next event.

thanks!

I just recently did a best game format on MP for my FF launch party and I had a very difficult time figuring out how to submit scores properly on the new next system. In fact I went into the old system and ran it out of there as I was confused on how to run it in the new system. It might just be a training thing but the old system you entered scores in a scorekeeper module, I also had two windows open so I could add players, refresh the scorekeeper module then add them into the queue so they could play I could not quite handle on how to do that in next. I will do some more testing next time I have one as I will need to learn the new next best game format in match play. One thing I did notice is that the refresh rates are 60 seconds on the Big Screen look which seems to be a default on all the tournaments it would be nice to make a global 15 seconds on them all like was done for Max Match Play. Even in my normal league on group match play I find the 60 second refresh is too long.

Is there any way to adjust for a wrong entry in an elimination bracket? The round is already closed. Link: Match Play Events

As a larger question, I don’t understand the Close Round feature of matchplay. Is it best practice to just leave all rounds open until the tournament ends so you can alter results as needed? Does it mess up swiss pairings if you leave them open?

This… Unless I really don’t remember, the game scores are only shown on each individual game

I will take any feedback you have. The biggest difference between old and new is that the new system only has one set of screens. Players, scorekeepers, TDs all go to the same place to view results and enter scores. That’s the one thing that won’t change. I was backed into a corner in the old system where any change I wanted to make I had to make three times (for the TD view, the scorekeeper view and the player view). It made it impossible for me to add features or change behaviors because everything took three times as long.
