I did a service call on a newish AFMR today and the flippers were definitely flopped. The left flipper was aligned with the alignment hole (back of the bat). Right flipper was slightly below the hole. The factory is going by the alignment holes and the holes aren’t level with the inlane guides. You’d have to align the holes to the rubbers rather than the bats to get them even.
What really surprised me was the return springs. Very weak. I don’t remember WMS return springs being that weak. That’s gotta affect feel. I replaced both with stiffer springs and they felt ‘normal’ in play. I’ve got another customer with one and will check his next time I’m there.
Another thing I’ve noticed on all the AFM remakes is the autoplunger seems really weak? Super skill shots don’t go all the way around around at least 50% of the time and if they do it seems like it just barely makes it. Happens on 3 different machines I’ve played. Seems like a regularly occuring defect out of the box.
Played a friends MMR today and checked the return springs on that. Definitely stronger. Both original manuals call for the same spring, 10-364. Unless the new manuals say different, I’ll give CG a heads up when I get a chance.
the return springs need be changed as mentioned. also, the newest afmle just built in october 2017 does not have the delay issue as it was addressed. it plays just like the original in all aspects. i have not noticed any differences, no clunkiness either.
the delay issue was never an issue. the original test used flawed methodology, and eventually it was shown that the remake and the originals have similar delays.
