I understand the ask . . . Brian runs the site and will have to be the one to comment on whether that’s something he can and wants to implement.
Like I mentioned previously, I have no interest in “forcing” Brian to work on this. The change is a “good one”, and while it could be whatever version of “even better” for the reasons you mentioned, I’m totally fine with “don’t let the great be the enemy of the good” in this case.
The “being saddled in such a deep efficiently hole that they have to wait three years to ‘fix’” comment lands as mostly hyperbole to me, but I’m happy to run a case study on someone you think would be so deeply saddled. (I just saw Zeus post exactly this as I was typing this, but I’m keeping it anyway)
My eff rating isn’t the best, but I don’t think I’m too deeply effected. I have no problem with one being done in myself but im sure there are better ones than me.
You go up 68 spots so you’re not a great example of the v6.0 system deeply saddling you with reasons you shouldn’t have played in the past.
With that said, your 2023 Eff% is 32.99%, which has brought up your overall Eff% from 14.68% to 17.49% since the year started.
With that said, what @abagwell85 says is on point . . . anyone that wants to nominate THEMSELVES to be analyzed, let’s stick with that to avoid inadvertently analyzing someone that doesn’t want to be analyzed.
If the goal in tweaking the system is to rank players more accurately it seems like doing so over a period of “normal play” without folks adjusting their participation to avoid eff% damage should produce a more accurate measure of their performance, right?
Top 100 here I come . That seems about right and I don’t see me having to “climb” out of a hole. I really only see the positive to this change. I did have events I “didn’t care” that I played(casual small tournaments are not for me)
I’m curious from the opposite perspective. I played a million events trying to get better since I just started. I’m curious if I would have only gone to D82 what my ranking would be. I forgot to include who I am lol. Dan Hammond
Curious to see my numbers without D82. I went to D82 one time, played in 5 tournaments, and completely bombed out on every one of them. I blame the lights being off! LOL
Also the extreme anomaly of the Played in America Tour at Portal Pinball. I don’t have an explanation or excuse for that one… Well, wait, yeah. Started off on a classic in a three player group and never recovered… LOL
It seems like for less than 70 spots in the rankings I could of stayed local and literally saved thousands. It also seems like I should put no stock in learning new machines or machines with no rubbers or modern sterns with lightning flippers etc…. Actually it feels like I should start doing what I dislike most about pinball, learn the local place that has the worst playing machines and learn to manipulate them the best. These changes seem to also create a barrier of entry for new players. Instead of spending 2 years playing in events, buy machines and practice like crazy at home before u go anywhere. Avoid places with only 5 or 6 machines if u dont like the majority of them. If u are best at moderns only go places with 100% moderns. If u only like classics, stick to those formats. If the eff% is too confusing to u (like me) only participate in events that u like, stay sober, grind every ball, bring a rules list since lots of local td’s are unfamiliar with them.
Im honestly trying to see the incentive to play more pinball. Is there a reason to play less after a really good stretch or give up after a really bad stretch?
These are some of the concerns I have with the new system and am open to opinions on them.
Im just trying to give my perspective. Part of the FUN for me is competing and the way I view the new rules is to stay local and practice outside of tournaments as much as possible. That way I will be as prepared as I can be for a tournament. The way I am interpreting the new points is that there is no more using tournaments to practice and definitely not for fun. The number of tournaments I went to for fun and drinks actually hurts efficiency. Bring your A game or stay home. We actually had a non ifpa pingolf event that was a blast. Will look forward to tournaments like that more often.
