Terminal City Pinball Championships (TCPC) - Vancouver Canada - October 4-6, 2019

The people of Vancouver, BC, Canada would like to invite you to the first ever Terminal City Pinball Championships (TCPC)!

The TCPC will be held on the first weekend of October 2019 (4th-6th) and will feature a “Super Stacked” 3 strike party tournament on the Friday night followed by a huge TCPC matchplay tournament on the Saturday, with a PAPA-style finals on the Sunday. All ages and skill levels welcome!

12 Kings Pub will be the spot where it all goes down! We plan to bring in around 20 machines of all eras, to the huge back room where we will be able to play and compete to determine who the very first Terminal City Pinball Champion will be!

Format details:

  • 4 or 3 player groups will be assigned a machine at random.
  • Bottom 2 players will receive a strike in 4 player groups
  • Bottom player will receive a strike in 3 player groups
  • Swiss pairing will be used so you are always playing against someone with the same number of strikes when possible
  • PAPA/IFPA rules will be used for this event
  • Exceptionally good play rule will be in effect
  • Cash and Prizes will be given out to the winners
  • Prize structure is dependent on attendance but will be released prior to the event
  • Tournament machines will be on Free Play
  • You must be entered into the tournament in order to play the machines (this isn’t an expo)

We hope to have beer specials, prizes to give away, DJ’s and a whole lot of fun at this event! If you have ever been to one of the Stacked events (last Friday of every month @ Pub 340) you know what to expect! It will also give us a good chance to tune up the games for the TCPC the next day as well as giving all the competitors a chance to feel out the machines.

Format details:

  • 6 qualifying match play rounds of 3 games per round
  • IFPA scoring: 7-5-3-1. (7-4-1 for 3-player groups)
  • Re-seeding after every round – Tiered Swiss.
  • There will be a 1 hour dinner break between rounds 4 and 5
  • PAPA/IFPA rules will be used for this event
  • Exceptionally good play rule will be in effect
  • Tournament machines will be on Free Play
  • You must be entered into the tournament in order to play the machines

Division breakdowns for the finals are noted below:

A division

  • Top 12 Qualify for finals
  • Top 4 get a first round bye in the finals
  • Players with a IFPA rank of 500th or better as of Oct. 4th, 2019 will be A division restricted
  • Each of the top 12 A division finalists will get to select a game that they DON’T want in their finals bank
  • The A division finals bank must consist of 8 machines with at least 2 machines from each of the 3 main eras (Modern, Solid State, and Electro Mechanical)

B division

  • Top 8 Qualify for finals
  • Players with a IFPA rank of 2000th or better as of Oct. 4th, 2019 will be B division restricted
  • B division finalists will select from the games not reserved for the A division finals

C division

  • Top 8 Qualify for finals
  • Any player with an IFPA rank of 2001st or lower as of Oct. 4th, 2019 will be C division eligible
  • C division finalists will select from the games not reserved for the A division finals, after B division has selected their game

Terminal City Pinball Championships – Finals
Sunday, October 6h, 2019 @ 1:00 PM
Doors at 12:00 PM

Format details:

  • All finalists will be divided into groups of four players based on standard seeding procedures.
  • Each group will play three separate four-player games, each on a different machine from among those designated for that division.
  • PAPA scoring: 4-2-1-0
  • The top 2 finalists from each group after the round is complete will move on to the next round
  • The top seed of each group will select game or position for the first round with the loser of that game selecting for the next round
  • A player may not select the same machine twice all day, nor can a machine be selected twice within the same round
  • Cash and Prizes will be given out to the winners
  • Prize structure is dependent on attendance but will be released prior to the event

so 12 out of 80 for the A finals? pretty steep cutoff! :slight_smile:

True enough. This is our first go at a bigger event like this and we will continue to grow and learn from things as we progress. I would be over the moon if we sold out which would make it steep for sure. I would hope to see around 60 players show up which would be be closer to the wheel house. I appreciate your input and please let me know if you see other areas where you think we could improve.
