Really great discussion, particularly the women in pinball and fantasy/betting segments.
It’s interesting to hear the discussion of the fantasy league linked to the betting issue. I participated in the fantasy league for the first time this year even though i witnessed how uncomfortable the example from a previous Pinburgh made friends. I hadn’t drawn the same connection, and was mostly excited because I’m rather newly into stats of my own in pinball and elsewhere, but I’m definitely reminded of how uncomfortable this gets for people quickly. One of the great things about pinball as a competitive hobby is how much it’s about what we can do as individuals playing a game, and how we can improve over ourselves and our past performance, while the competitive aspect is somewhat indirect. That is, my success doesn’t necessarily mean your downfall or vice versa.* It’s a weird thing to think about. Even though I’m not on my own roster for fantasy Pinburgh, I’m most interested in participating to experiment with the statistical aspect of it, but I hope I don’t make any players participating uncomfortable in my doing so (that’s why I didn’t publish the names of folks on my roster in that thread).
*however I would happily play some games of Challenger against anyone!
