August Annihilation (event #4 in the circuit) is now in the books! A big thanks goes out to all 46 people who attended yesterday’s event. Without your support these events don’t happen! I hope everyone had a blast yesterday. The tournament started on time, and ran smooth throughout the day. Congratulations to all of the winners as well!! Once again we had some new faces collecting cash at this event and we had 11 new players attending a Delaware Pinball tournament for the first time!!! We also had a memorable event take place at Event #4, Chad Hastings popped the big question to Marianne Pangia after Round 5 of qualifying, she said YES! Event #5 is on 10/6 in Magnolia, DE at Chad Hastings house and that event is sold out. Event 6 is also sold out. Lastly, IFPA results were submitted this morning.

Also, I want to make sure everyone that participates in a First State Flippers tournament is fully aware of the breakdown of the money received for the tournament. I want everything to be transparent.

As mentioned before, $4 from each entry paid is being set aside for the prize fund for the “Delaware Tour Championship” that will be held after the original 6 events are completed. The Tour Championship date is set in stone and will take place on 12/1 with the location to be determined. We collected $184 from the August Annihilation event and that now brings the total after 4 events to $680!!!

We also held another 50/50 raffle drawing during event #4. The purpose of the 50/50 raffle is to take half of the proceeds and put that aside for the winner of the Delaware State Championship Series. First State Flippers will help “sponsor” the winner of the SCS and whatever money we take in from the 50/50 will go to that person to help cover expenses, flight, lodging, etc to attend the Nationals in Las Vegas next year. We sold $160 in 50/50 tickets at Event #4 with Vic Scelba being the winner and collecting $80. After 4 events we have now raised $332 from the 50/50 raffle!

Final overall results are posted below. In addition to that I have updated the Delaware Tour Championship standings and posted those results as well. Currently Joe Fox Jr is still our #1 seed after 4 events. PLEASE REMEMBER that in order to qualify for the Delaware Tour Championship you have to attend 3 of the 6 events PLUS finish inside the top 32 after all 6 events are completed.

We have moved quite a few games out of the basement and into storage, this will give us more room in the basement this time around. Event 6 should be very exciting as lots of spots are on the line to qualify for the year end Tour Championship! A few reminders and announcements below.

BYOB - We will have some sodas and bottled water on hand as usual, but if you prefer specific soda or adult beverages you need to bring your own.

FOOD - We will have our usual snacks, chips, dips, and desserts along with Primo Hoagies subs, and pulled pork. Depending on money left over from expenses, we will also order a few pizzas but it probably won’t be many so come prepared if you like to eat!

Practice starts at 11am and practice will end at 12:45pm. Tournament will start promptly at 1pm.

50/50 tickets will be on sale all day long so bring your extra cash.

All,

November Nefarious, the final event of the Tour Championship is now in the books! A big thanks goes out to all 52 people who attended yesterday’s event. This was the largest event ever for Delaware Pinball! Without your support these events don’t happen! I hope everyone had a blast yesterday. The tournament started at 1:10pm, and once we overcame numerous game break downs in Round 1, the rest of the day ran smooth. Rounds averaged 31 minutes and we got 7 rounds in, with the final round ending at 4:45pm. Our quickest round was Round #3 which only lasted 24 minutes! As for game play, our longest average playing game was Metallica Premium at 24:34! Average game time was 19:38!

Congratulations to all of the winners as well!! Once again we had some new faces collecting cash at this event and we had 7 new players attending a First State Flippers event for the first time!!! Reminder that the final event is the Delaware Tour Championship being held on 12/1 at Joe Fox’s house. The top 32 players qualify for this event. Lastly, IFPA results were submitted this morning for November Nefarious

Also, I want to make sure everyone that participates in a First State Flippers tournament is fully aware of the breakdown of the money received for the tournament. I want everything to be transparent.

As mentioned before, $4 from each entry paid is being set aside for the end of the year prize fund for the “Delaware Tour Championship”, which will be held on 12/1 as mentioned above. We collected $208 from the November Nefarious event and that now brings the current total prize pool money after 6 events to $1072!!!

We also held another 50/50 raffle drawing during event #6. We sold $214 in 50/50 tickets at Event #6 with Jeffrey Shropshire being the winner for the second time this year and collecting $107. After 6 events we have now raised $524 from the 50/50 raffle and this money will go a long ways to help out with expenses for the Delaware State Champion!!!

As for our Bounty Envelopes, we had all 8 bounty envelopes collected by the end of round 5. We gave out a total of $50 in bounties at this event!

Final overall results are posted below. Chad Hastings took home 1st place in “A Division”, Charlie Bucks took home 1st in “B Division” and Brian LeBlanc took home 1st in “C Division”.

In addition to that I have updated the Delaware Tour Championship standings and posted the final results (see photos). With a 1st place victory yesterday, Chad Hastings surpassed Joe Fox Jr and is the new #1 seed heading into the Tour Championship. Our final standings ended up with 3 players tied for the 32nd and final spot. Those players were Tom DeStasio, David Schumeister, and Ryan Altemose. Per the Tour Championship Rules, the tiebreaker for the 32nd position will be determined by whichever player has the highest finish in a “tour event” this season. If a tie remains after a single event, the next highest finish will be considered. This process will repeat until the tie is broken, or a coin flip is required. Tom’s highest finish was 8th place in Event #1. Ryan’s highest finish was 15th place in Event #2. David’s highest finish was last night at Event #6 with an 8th place finish. That means that we had to go to a second event to break the tie between Tom and David. Tom’s next best finish was 28th place at Event #6 and David’s next best finish was 24th place at Event #2. That means David Schumeister gets the 32nd spot for the Delaware Tour Championship!

We are one day away from the biggest, non Stern Circuit event to hit the Mid-Atlantic! After 6 events throughout the year, Delaware’s first ever circuit championship comes to an end tomorrow. $800 for 1st place along with a 5 foot tall trophy is unheard of! Who will be crowned the first ever Delaware tour Champion? Stay tuned to find out!

All,

The year end finale is coming! Listed below are the full rules & format for the Delaware Tour Championship. In short, as mentioned before we are copying the format used for the PAPA Circuit Finals, with one small change. We have added “Consolation” rounds and “Consolation” groups so that everyone will get to play in the same format as the Top 8 playing in the “Championship Bracket”. What does that mean you ask? If we followed the PAPA Circuit finals exactly, that means that anyone losing in Round 1 (4 games) would be sent home. That doesn’t sit well with the First State Flippers as we want people to have a great time and play lots of pinball! So in the modified PAPA Circuit Finals that we will be using, no matter how you are playing on 12/1, everyone will play a bare minimum of 8 games. This also means that even if you lose in Round 1, you still have the ability to win money in one of the 3 Consolation groups. Please take time before 12/1 to read over the rules and if you have any questions REPLY ALL so that everyone can be on the same page. Lastly, I have also included a picture of the Round 1 pairings as long as all 32 people show up. To recap our player list, we have 1 person back out and that slot was filled by Tom DeStasio, so as of now we have a full field of 32 people. We also have Ryan Altemose, Mike Germscheid, Chris Chow, and John Hurd all confirmed as alternates should they be needed. Good luck everyone, Happy Thanksgiving, and we will see you in a couple of weeks!

The Finals – Format & Details (Modified PAPA Circuit Finals)

The Tour Championship Final will feature a select group of pinball machines selected by officials. Machines outside this group may not be selected for play. Officials may make machine substitutions as they deem necessary.

Round 1

All players will be grouped together by seed into 8 groups of 4 players. Each group of 4 players will compete on 4 different machines, with the highest seeded player given the choice of choosing the game to be played or determining order of play. We will use the PAPA Finals scoring format of 4/2/1/0 during this round. At the end of the 4 game round, two players will advance out of each group into the second round of the winners bracket. Players not advancing will then move down to the losers bracket.

Round 2 – Winners Bracket

Round 2 in the winners bracket will function just like round one. All players will be grouped together by seed into 4 groups of 4 players. Each group of 4 players will compete on 4 different machines, with the highest seeded player given the choice of choosing the game to be played or determining order of play. We will use the PAPA Finals scoring format of 4/2/1/0 during this round as well. At the end of the 4 game round, two players will advance out of each group into the Championship Ladder-style bracket as part of Group #1. The players not advancing will move down to the Consolation Group #2 Ladder-style bracket.

Round 2a – Losers Bracket

Round 2 in the losers bracket will function similarly to round one, with the exception that these groups will play a 3 game round instead of a 4 game round. This group will be made up of the 16 players that did not advance in Round 1. All players will be grouped together by seed into 4 groups of 4 players. Each group of 4 players will compete on 3 different machines, with the highest seeded player given the choice of choosing the game to be played or determining order of play. We will use the PAPA Finals scoring format of 4/2/1/0 during this round as well. At the end of the 3 game round, two players will advance out of each group into the Consolation Group #3 Ladder-style bracket. The remaining two players not advancing to Group #3 will instead advance to the Consolation Group #4 Ladder-style bracket.

Round 3 – Championship Ladder-style Bracket Finals for the Final 8 (Group #1)

Round 3 consists of a series of four-player games. The first game is played by the four lowest-seeded players. The highest-seeded player has choice of machine or order of play. Choice proceeds through the remaining players in descending order of seeding. Once the game has ended, the player who has the lowest score is eliminated from the Tour Championship. The next lowest-seeded player, who has not yet played, is added to the group for the next game. In each subsequent match, the highest-seeded player (who will be the player who just joined the group) has choice of machine or order of play. The next choice is given to the winner of the previous game, and choice proceeds in descending order of score on the previous game.

No player may choose the same machine more than once, but any player may choose a machine already played, including the most recent machine played. Officials may remove any machine from consideration at any time.

Players will compete until two players remain. At that point, a best-of-three match between the final two players will take place to determine the 2018 Delaware Tour Champion. The highest seeded player has the choice of machine or order of play for the first game. From that point forward, the loser of the previous game has the choice of machine or order of play.

Round 3a – Consolation Ladder-style Bracket Finals (Group #2, Group #3 & Group #4)

Round 3 in the losers bracket will consist of 3 different Ladder-style brackets.

  • Group #2 will be made up of the 8 players who won Round 1 but lost in Round 2 of the Winners Bracket
  • Group #3 will be made up of the 8 players who lost Round 1 but won in Round 2 of the Losers Bracket
  • Group #4 will be made up of the 8 players who lost Round 1 and lost in Round 2 of the Losers Bracket

Each Consolation Ladder-style bracket will consist of a series of four-player games. The first game is played by the four lowest-seeded players. The highest-seeded player has choice of machine or order of play. Choice proceeds through the remaining players in descending order of seeding. Once the game has ended, the two players who have the lowest scores are eliminated from the Tour Championship. The next two lowest-seeded players, who have not yet played, are then added to the group for the next game.

In each subsequent match, the highest-seeded player (who will be one of the players who just joined the group) has choice of machine or order of play. The next choice is given to the other highest seeded player who just joined the group. From there the winner of the previous game gets 3rd choice, and the second place finisher of the previous game will get 4th choice.

No player may choose the same machine more than once, but any player may choose a machine already played, including the most recent machine played. Officials may remove any machine from consideration at any time.

Players will compete until two players remain in each of the 3 Consolation Ladder-style brackets on the losers side. At that point, a best-of-three match between the final two players in each Consolation bracket will take place to determine the winner of each group. The highest seeded player has the choice of machine or order of play for the first game. From that point forward, the loser of the previous game has the choice of machine or order of play.

Prizes

The final 8 players in the Championship Ladder Bracket will all receive a cash prize with the 1st place winner receiving the biggest portion of the prize fund along with the Delaware Tour Championship trophy! Additionally, the winner of each Consolation Group in the losers bracket will also win a cash prize. Payouts are listed below based on all 32 people showing up for the event.
