I blame insomnia for this format.
Last Tuesday I was at loose ends for what sort of tournament to run that night at Logan Arcade. Somehow, my brain decided that the best idea was:
A TRIBUTE TO THE SONGS OF THE BAND “FOREIGNER”
Six games. Table points = your score / the lowest-ranked high score currently on that table (I walked around gathering these before we started)
I Wanna Know What Love Is - play your favorite table
Juke Box Hero - play one of the licensed rock band tables
Star Rider - play a space-themed game
Urgent - 3 minute timed game
Feels Like The First Time - 1 ball challenge
Double Vision - either the left or right half (player’s choice) of the playfield blocked off from the top down to just above the flippers
It ended up being a lot of fun, and I’ll definitely do it again, with some changes: Urgent will be 30 seconds, and I’d like to get some actual vision-doubling goggles for Double Vision. Also, next time I’ll rank players’ table points on each challenge, then use those rankings to generate game points, so that the 1-ball challenge and Urgent are as relevant as the other games.
